I have a Panasonic sc-xh150 DVD home theater soundsystem I need to hook it up with myc ox cable dvr ,ps3 and LG 42 INCH LED TV#42LN5300 I have no remote for the Panasonic and also won't play DVD

This Panny is a pretty sophisticated home theater (HT) system. It will play music from and control an iPod or iPhone up to 5th generation units in addition to DVDs, CDs, FM radio, and other sources like your PS3, cable DVR, etc. Everything you need to know about setting it up and running it is in the user manual. Go to http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/SCXH150.PDF to download one for free.

Unfortunately this HT has two issues that will affect your ability to use it. First, like most modern systems, you absolutely need a remote to run it. Only the basic controls appear on the main unit. You can buy a $10 "universal" remote and see if that works -- they're available at Walmart, Staples, Home Depot etc under names like RCA, Philips, and Sony. But quite often they only have buttons for running a unit, not for setting it up. If that's the case you'll need the original Panny remote, which is much more expensive. Go to shop.panasonic.com and poke around to find it.

The second issue is what you want to plug into it. It has very limited inputs. There is no HDMI input at all, and no component video inputs, which means you'll have to run a cable from your DVR directly to the TV if you want Hi-Def video. The same holds true for the PS3. Unless your LG TV is ARC-capable, you'll also have to run a separate audio line back to the HT unit to hear the sound from the DVR, the PS3, or TV programs. Not a huge deal if the LG has enough inputs, but kind of disappointing. Good luck.

I purchase a Panasonic Blu-Ray Home Theatre SC-BT330PCK with the intent of using it as a surround sound system for my TV and having a Blu-Ray as a bonus. Is it possible to have them work independently?

Hello there,

Yes it is possible and relatively simple to do. I suspect you have only connected an HDMI cable from the Home Theater system (HT) to the TV. This cable only sends audio and video to the TV from the HT system - it can't be used to receive the audio from the TV back to the HT.

To get audio from the TV channels through the HT speakers, you will need to connect a separate audio cable from the AUDIO OUT sockets on the TV to the HT. This can be either a Digital Optical cable (connects to socket ringed in green) or an RCA type stereo audio cable (connects to AUX sockets ringed in red).

If you are using a cable or satellite receiver, you should connect the receiver directly to the HT rather than the TV. You would also need to select the correct INPUT on the HT when you want to use the speakers for the TV channels. This will be DIGITAL 1 if using the digital optical cable or AUX if using the RCA stereo audio cable.

The audio connections are explained on page 16 of your user manual and input selection is explained on page 23. If you don't have a manual, please let me know and I can supply one.

I can draw you a diagram showing how to connect your TV to the HT and provide step-by-step instructions for setting it up, but you will need to let me know the brand and model number of your TV. If you are using a cable or satellite receiver, please let me know the brand and model number of this receiver as well.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
BElectric

No sound with ps3, connected to a 7.1 av receiver & projection tv

Hi...the HT-R800 Home Theater system has the HT-R550 receiver which could only carry Video via HDMI. you would need to connect a separate audio cale(Optical Audio Cable) to be able to get audio out of the PS3 to the receiver. Once you have hooked up an Optical Audio Cable you would need to go in the PS3 setup and putin Bitstream and Optical in the Audio Setup menu.

Sony KF50we60 hdmi-dvi sound cuts when plugging into a ht-sf2300

DVI = HDMI without the audio connectors. So basically you need to connect your audio in some different way, PS3s allow you to keep your video signal as HDMI and change the Audio signal to component, so that is one way or doing it, not sure if the blue ray players allow you to do this though.
