Take out your cartrage again, if you look at each side of inside the machine there are silver contacts on either side. make sure that they are not dirty or bent and they make proper contact with the cartridge when inserted, if they dont the voltage will be missing that goes through the drum to limit the toner transfer, if there in no connection all the toner will appear on the drum and on the paper.

When I print the page is very black and hard to read...It has progressively gotten worse. Also, many times there is a duplicate image in a different place on the page. Something going on with the toner? ...

The first thing to do with double image is to replace the cartridge!
If you want to make sure that it is the cartridge, you can print a page, stop the printer in the middle of the run, open the printer, take out the cartridge, look inside the printer at the page, do not remove the paper yet, if the double image and dark page is there, your problem is from the cartridge, if the page is clean and nice as it should be your problem with the fuser unit and it needs replacment. Good luck.

Cannon 6 RE PC gives black copies

does the lamp under the platen glass turns on when copying? if not you might need a new exposure lamp...but if you get an image but its very dark, if you are mechanically inclined you can clean the mirrors and lens and the bottom of the platen glass because after many years of use dust will make the optics dirty and cause the copies to be very dark. hope this helps.

Make image darker

I found a link to the service manual kindly submitted by another poster here, there is some potentially helpful ideas there to fix problems like these: http://www.feedroller.com/Store/Service%20Manual/HL-1230,%20HL-1440,%20HL-1450,%20HL-1470N%20Parts%20and%20Service%20Manual.pdf

Check out p.165 and onwards. If you are like me, the easy service points like cleaning the corona wire and wiping the scanner window that you are supposed to do between toner changes never gets done as long as things work ok. Maybe you already checked that but if not, this could help.

Good luck!

Cannon PC1061 making dark copies

OR you can do it yourself.

your problems seems to be Dirty Mirrors.

Your copiear has 6 mirrors that need to be clean up. 5 of them are kinda easy access. the other needs to be clean thru something thiner than your fingers. (you can see the mirror but no way you can reach it).

Now dont worry (not yet) about that 6th mirror since THEORICALLY it doesnt get dirty.

So try first to clean up the other mirrors. and see what happens.

They are located below the platen glass (remove it) and be careful with the lenses (do not touch them). clean everything that seems to reflect light Or images.

If nothing changes you may want to try out with a new cartdrige. Your drum may be done.

Adjustment program

Try cleaning the Auto Exposure sensor, or disabling the AE feature in standard settings. Some copiers have exposure calibration in standard settings too. Increasing the lamp intensity may cause further premature wear down the process line. (What machine have you got?)

Dark Copies

Jim, A couple of things: 1. OEM (Canon original) toner cartridge or remanufactured/compatible? The first place to start is always with the toner cartridge when image problems occur. Pull the cartridge out and draw back the drum cover. Check to see if the drum is a nice "clean" blue color or if the lines and spots are on it like you described. (These two areas should be handled by someone with experience in copy service) 2. The next thing would involved cleaning under the copy glass. Build up from dust, etc causes a "fogginess" that makes the machine try to adjust the intensity of the exposure lamp to conpensate for this. 3. Also could be a bad upper fuser roller if you started having any paper jams when to paper exits.

Replaced toner cartridge now doesn't work

If you pull out the paper tray you will see a rubber pick up roller. Clean that roller with a rag and some rubbing alcohol. It sounds as if the roller is slipping and not bringing the paper in fully. Good luck John
