Question about HP DesignJet 500ps (42 in.) InkJet Printer

Open Question

Our Designjet 500 42 is not utilizing 42in

Our Designjet 500 42 is not utilizing the full length of paper. When I go into printer properties, it says Paper Avaliable: ANSI A. Do I need to remove the paper roll (full 42in) and reinsert it to get it to recognize the proper size? Is there anything I'm missing with regards to this?We can get up to about a ANSI B to print, but the printer properties won't let me select ISO sizes.

I have a 3100 series HP. On it you select "Properties", then the "Features" tab. On that tab, there is a "Resizing Options" menu item. It has a drop down menu with "Letter", "More...", and "Custom" choices. There you can define the size.

Hello oyam26,
For any paper mismatch issue, first thing you do is try to set the paper type to plain. This will fix the issue in most of the cases.

Designjet 750c mispositioned reload media, can you help me?

As these printers get some age on them I have seen them not load paper as they did when new. One thing you can check is to be shure the encoder stip is clean. It is the thin piece that streches the length of the machine and has very tiny lines that the carraige assembly reads to position itself as it moves back and forth. Be careful cleaning it so as not to damage it and don't cut yourself. Windex or alcohol will do fine.

Yellow doesn't print

Confirm that you have yellow ink left in the cartridge.
Do a print head cleaning indicated in the printer utility program.
Also if you go to your printer in the start, settings, printer and faxes and right click on properties, you should find a head clean function.

Incomplete Plot of PDF file

This is a common problem on the 500 range, not so common on the 1050. A quick way around the problem (using the parallel port only) is to load the HP Designjet 750c drivers. Send the drawing to the 750 using memory in computer option and it WILL print.
