Compressor may be overheating. check outside unit for obstructions around the unit that may be blocking airflow. how old is the unit? if it is 5 years or older the compressor may just be going bad.

or it could be a safety cut off switch that turns the unit off when the drain line is clogged.

Can a Fujitsu compressor unit be connected to multiple inside evaporator units that have different tonnage ratings. 18,000 BTU compressor and 9,000 & 12,000 BTU evaporator units inside.

call fujitsu engineering division direct and ask them about what is connected and if it works ok
logically as each evaporator has it's own tx valve as long as the compressor is large enough to run all together it should work but get the right information from the fujitsu experts

What is the tonnage

12,000 btu equals one ton. The model number starts with 12, so it's a 12,000 btu unit which equals one ton. Garcuda

I have an oddball question. What does a 3-ton A/C unit weigh? I know its not 3 tons.

Not every 3-ton unit weighs exactly the same - they differ in weight depending on how they were manufactured. Most 3-ton units weigh around 150 pounds (I would guess) give or take a few pounds.
The "3-ton" refers to the "cooling capacity" of the air conditioner.
It's actually 'slang' for 36,000 Btu.
Note; 12,000 btu equals 1 ton.
Hence a 24,000 Btu unit would be called a "2-ton unit," and a 12,000 Btu unit would be called a 1 ton unit.

I have a Emerson Quiet Kool Model # 12JW42K that is 13 years old. It doesn't seem to cool the apt. anymore. I assume that it would be smarter to get a new "energy saving" unit than invest in...

I know that a Island Air units come in all shapes and sizes and they make a ton of different units. They are made in new york thats who I would use. I would definitly go with the 12,000 btu unit 500 square feet needs 12,000 btus 10,000 is under sized. 500 square feet divided by 500 = 1 ton of cooling. let me know if I can further assist.

What is the tonnage on an Intertherm S3RC-0336K.

Hello, the tonnage on this unit is a 3 ton unit. Your model number tells you. The 036 is the tonnage. There are 12,000 btu's per ton, so 36 divided by 3 =12 or in this case 12,000 btu's.

Hi,
It looks like you have a 60,000 BTU unit or a 5 ton unit...12,000 BTU/ton is how you figure that...
The 60 in the model number indicates the nominal btu's of the unit... the exact output could be a bit more or less depending on the air handler...

The 18,000 btu A/C is 230 volts, are you sure the 12,000 btu unit is 230 volts most are 120 volts.
Usually 12,000 btu is the biggest 120 volt A/C you can buy.

Just bought 12,000 BTU unit from Lowes. It worked

you have to balance the adjustment of fan speed and the amount of coolness you set the unit for. Either increase the fan speed or lower the coldness setting.
