Hello

The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair center for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

You can also have a look at THIS link.

Hope the advise is useful. please do not hesitate to let me know if you need any further assistance.

Regards
Andrea

Error 99 is a generic error code that usually, but not always, means some kind of lens error. You will need to go to the support section of the Canon website to get specific instructions for your model camera. After 21/2 years, you might try cleaning the contacts on the camera body and the lens where they meet using a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol.

I have a canon 1d mark II and when i use my 50mm F/1.4 the camera will not allow me to go below f/2.8

I assume you tried in all modes? All I can think of is P.Fn 5 which allows you to limit the range of available apertures for all exposure modes..Check That program function. Probably not noticed before as you haven't has such a bright lens on before (I assume!)

Error 99 on screen cant take picture intermitant

Error 99 is known as Abnormal Mirror operation. Follow the link for help;EOS-1D Mark III/EOS-1Ds Mark III: AF Accuracy Adjustment
EOS-1D Mark III/EOS-1Ds Mark III: Abnormal Mirror Operation (Err 99)

It should be noted that the AF accuracy adjustment advisory is in addition to the previous EOS-1D Mark III AF mirror adjustment service notice. Free repairs are being offered for customers affected by the "Err 99" mirror problem, and Canon is also providing free AF accuracy checks and adjustments for customers experiencing problems with soft focus when using any but the central AF point.

Finally, Canon Japan has published a new manual entitled "EOS-1D Mark III AI Servo Auto Focus Manual" aimed at helping owners understand and get the most from their AF system.

Canon EOS-1D won't save pix to CF card. G.

The E99 message usually ends up being a shutter box that needs to be replaced. The 1D shutter box should be good for 100,000 images or more, you can probably find the estimated lifespan on Google somewhere.

If you can"t save pics to the CF card then you might have a bent or broken pin on your CF card reader. Look down into the CF slot, does it look ok?

We are an online digital camera repair shop but we haven't done any 1D cameras before.

Flash goes off on its own

Make sure that you parked (pushed) the flash all the way to the front of the Hot Shoe until it will go no more, then turn/lock it down. Check to see if you can move flash around. You should not, means it's still loose and shorting with ground.

If you take the flash out, will the flash fires by itself?
Try pushing in one contact pin then two and so to see if flash goes off.

Still having problem.

Remove 4 AA batteries or when the flash goes off, turn off flash and remove batteries.
Wait for about two days.
Get Auto Brake Cleaner, comes in spray can, and sprays into the contacts. Best if you have Carb Cleaner instead of brake.
You can spray into a small cup and use a Qtip to clean.

Notes: Wear safety glasses and don't spray to much.
Spray and same time push those contacts in & out
DO NOT put batteries in or use until after 4 or 5 days.

Still, no luck. Then use a DVM to check.

Hope they are helpful.

Canon err 01

This error means "Communication between the camera and lens is faulty. Clean the lens contacts." If you are using the same lens on both cameras, the problem is with the metal contacts on the rear of the lens where it communicates with the camera body. You can gently clean these contacts by using a clean pencil eraser. Make sure you hold the lens "bottom down" as you clean it so that the eraser debris falls to the table instead of inside the lens!

Why do I get Error 99 in my Canon EOS 350 D?

1. Turn off the camera.
2. Remove the lens, battery, and CF card.
3. Allow the camera to sit without power for approximately 20 minutes.
4. Insert a fully charged battery, and turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.
Does the “ERR 99′ message appear? If it does, then the camera should be
serviced. If it does not, then please proceed to the next set of steps:
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Insert the CF card.
3. Turn on the camera.
4. Format the CF card in the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.
Does the “ERR 99′ message appear? If so, then the CF card is the most
likely source of the issue. Try using a different card.
If the message does not appear, please complete the following steps:
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Clean the lens contacts by gently rubbing them with a pencil eraser
or soft cloth. Be careful that you do not let any debris fall into the
camera body.
3. Reattach your lens.
4. Turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.
If the “ERR 99′ message only appears when one particular lens is
attached, then that lens should be examined by a service technician.
If you see the “ERR 99′ with a different Canon lens attached, then the
camera should be serviced.

Error 99

I get error 99 sometimes on my 20 D but it?s usually to do with a lens that is attached. Sigma lens have been known to cause error's. If it's not that or dirty contact on the lens then it could be a more serious problem. I would at least check it out with a canon dealer/repair centre.
