Question about Acer TravelMate 4202WLMi Notebook
Do I really need an external DVD burner for my Acer 4202 laptop? I've burned CDs and played DVDs on it before, but when I try to burn a DVD+R disc it says the disc is either full or flawed. Tried multiple new discs. "My Computer" shows this as the drive: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4082N -- but my owner's-manual specs refer to "Storage subsystem" optical drive options of 8X DVD-Super Multi double-layer and 8X DVD-Dual double-layer. What's the "8X" for if not a burn speed? And the drive door has an emblem that says "DVD multi recorder"
Could this be a driver problem, or is my drive less than advertised?
The DVD drive is an 8X burner, not a ROM (read-only).
The laser lens may need cleaning.
Radio Shack has a CD/DVD laser lens cleaner ($13). It is an audio CD with a row of brushes. No chemicals involved. Read and follow directions.
It won't mess anything if not done correctly.
Best DVD media is Verbatim. Best price is found at OfficeMAX.
