What do I do if my memory card is corrupted and I can get my photos off?

Hi meredee_swit,

Files on a flash drive can be corrupted, if it is not removed from the USB port properly.

I advise you before removing the flash drive, CLICK on the Safely Remove Hardware icon and then, click on the flash drive you want to remove and then remove the flash drive, when the computer message says "it is Safe to remove".

1. To restore the flash drive to working order you need to format the flash drive, but you will lose the data stored on the flash drive.

If you need the data on the flash drive these Websites may help Data and Digital Photo Recovery.
Please run the link:

Hope this helps.

Thank you for using Fixya

Somehow lost all photos on 512 mb memory card. any chance to retrieve them?

you can recover deleted photos from memory card with asoftech photo recovery program.
1. Do not save any new file to memory card.
2. Connect your card to computer. You should see memory card shown as a drive letter (like H:) in My Computer.
3. Download recovery software, recommended asoftech photo recovery (simply because i was using it and it worked)
4. Install and open the photo recovery program, select your memory drive, and click 'Start' button to start scanning process which will find your deleted photos.

I have the camera and plug but no cd

When you connect the camera to the computer, it probably creates a USB flash drive in My Computer - you should be able to view and copy the photos from there. You could also check Vivitar's Website to download the OEM software, or for some generic photo-editing software.
