I bet it secretly does have a reset command; hold Power for 3-10 seconds and see if something different happens. Also try powering on with 2 (contrary) controls held down. Phillips tends to make it simple, so it might just be power/brightness-down. They toss this in the manual but they don't want it named 'reset' and logged as a Phillips Failure so it's called something apart from that.

If your monitor has a reset button, press and hold it for 3 to 10 seconds.

Horizontal lines on Samsung 42

Hello horrizontal ines are controlled by your buffer (drive boards) or your ysus board. They are located on the side of the tv and are 3 boards that are connected together and connect to the side of the plasma screen. the two drive boards separate the top and buton. if the lines are on the top then you might try replacing the top buffer and vise versa. if that does not work then its your y-sus. be very carefull replacing these they are very sensative.

You can get get parts for this tv at www.interliquidparts.com

HI,i was whacthing the tv and on top the screen did appear 6-8 horizontal lines,i did try to turn on/off,......i need help.thankyou.

Normally this is an overheating issue or a power supply issue. For the overheating issue, take a vacuum and some compressed air and blow out the back of the TV. Dust can collect and cause components to retain heat that will cause the TV to produce horizontal lines called artifacts. Sometimes these are permanent but sometimes they can be repaired before replacement.

The bottom of the screen is black-as though there is a border along the bottom. I can't find a horrizontal adjustment anywhere.

It is a vertical issue, not horizontal.

Is the picture you have complete? Is there a black band along the top as well? If so, it may be because you are providing an HD aspect ratio of 16:9 instead of the TV native 4:3.

Try hooking up a VCR and watching a tape. Do you still have the black band on the bottom?

Screen

HI, need to see a picture of the line and need to know if you see it on all inputs and whitch ones are you using and does it do it on all of them.
If you cannot send me a picture then let me know what color is the line,is it from left to the right end of the screen and the top and the bottom of the line are they straight all the way horrizontally.
Wait your response then I will do my best to find the solution.

hi there, is the single line horizontally or vertically? if horizontal line, you do have a vertical section problem, check some parts at vertical section, the vertical ic, the power source of vertical section ie diode & resistors. ty

Can only see a horrizontal line

If you're NOT still under warrantee you should at least open the TV and look for a blown fuse near where the power cable enters the set. A lot of times you can buy replacement fuses at a local electronic or hardware store and they're easy to replace. Check the fuse. If it is blown, it will be obvious and make sure that the set is unplugged before replacing it. If it blows again you will need professional help with the repairs. You can also check the board where the components are mounted and resoled any that look bad. In your case it could caused by a blown fuse, a leaky diodes or a bad solder joint at the horizontal drive transformer. All can be replaced at a local electronic or hardware store and they're easy to replace If this does not correct the problem, you may need to have your TV serviced. good luck!
