Mac cannot see 750GB maxtor 4

Did you disconnect the firewire drive before installing? You may need to update your firmware. Also, try these things:

1. Shut down and disconnect your firewire drive leaving nothing is connected to the firewire ports.
2. Restart, and use Disk Utility to repair permissions on your internal.
3. Shut down, and disconnect the AC power from the computer and your drive; also remove battery if laptop.
4. Let computer sit unpowered and disconnected for15 minutes.
5. Reconnect AC power to only the computer and reinsert battery.
6. Restart computer.
7. Verify that firewire ports are visible using System Profiler.
8. Reconnect your firewire drive, and refresh window in System Profiler to rescan the firewire bus, and confirm that drive is visible.
9. Repair disk and permissions on the firewire drive.

Computer does not recognize Maxtor OneTouch

Sounds like you need to remove the cable, uninstall the software, Restart, and then shut down. Now, from a cold power off power on. I know this seems tedious, but it has to do with the Last Known Good Recovery File and what is in Device Manger.

Now reinstall the software and if the software should call for you to "now" connect the USB cable, do so only when prompted or when the installer is done. Re: the latter, attach the cable. Windows ill say it discovered new hardware, point windows to your CD drive where the installer disk is located and allow Windows to locate the software.

Shut down and restart and your drive should be recognized now when you have a desktop. If not, post this back using the comment box below.

Thank you for you indulgence on this. And, please be aware that, we all here want to see you fixed up and on your way. We all have a pretty good track record. However, there are times when a repair from a warranty service center is the only solution. However, I'm certain we all can get you taken care of and thanks for using Fix Ya.

My Maxtor 4 500 GB hard drive sounds like it's trying to run, but then it says that It's not connected to my computer. The little front light is lit up, but then it says it's not connected to my laptop. ...

This could be something as simple as the cable has gone bad. I would replace it first. If that does not work try this.
1.Right click the My Computer icon on desk top. If you do not have My Computer on the desk top it can be found in the Start Menu. It may just say Computer.
2.After right clicking it go to Properties in the drop down menu and left click it. You will get a window looking like this.
If you have Vista. I think Windows 7 is similar. Windows XP will be a window with tabs at top.
3.Open the Device Manager and you will get a window with a list of devices that are installed on you
PC. Looking like this.
In the list you should see your Maxtor it's probably down in the USB section. If you can't find it, it means you need to reinstall the drivers. If you do find it right click on it. You will have a drop down menu with different options on it. You can try uninstalling it reboot the PC and see if it auto finds it.

Hope this was helpful.
Good Luck

Trying to get my maxtor II to work with windows 07 software but it wont read the usb connection? After i have installed the software for maxtor.

Check Control Panel, System, Device Manager and make sure windows see's the connection. If you see a yellow triangle, that means the drivers are not correct. If you don't see it at all, that is a problem. Give Maxtor a call. You may need to update your motherboard bios, chipset drivers. At worst, you might have a problem with the motherboard or maxtor II device.

My hard drive stopped reading out of nowhere,as it tries to boot up it makes a clicking noise about every 10 to 15 seconds,it is a maxtor,I recently updated drivers for what i belive was my video card and...

It is enough info:
It is possible that the hard drive is bad (clicking noise - not good); however, try this:

1. Turn ON computer and get into the BIOS (probably by pressing the "del"ete key).
2. Go to the "Boot sequence" menu and make your Maxtor the FIRST boot device. (If CDROM is first, that's ok, too as long as the Maxtor is the SECOND boot device then).
3. Save changes (F10?) and start Windows (hopefully).
4. If it still doesn't work, go back to the BIOS settings and select "Use default settings". This will reset all BIOS settings to the factory settings. & try to boot Windows again.
5. If it still doesn't work, maybe you disturbed the hard drive (Maxtor) cables if you made any physical changes to the computer.
6. If so, or for the heck of it, open the computer and re-seat the cables on the Maxtor drive and motherboard.
7. Try again ...... or *sigh* replace hard drive.

Hope this helps!

Vista won't read Maxtor N256 HD as through USB-IDE cable

So donot take any action to your Maxtor and Try to find a DR company and recovery the data.Maybe the firmware is having some problems.Usually the tools called HD Doctor from SalvationDATA can deal with the firmware problems.

Maxtor One Touch Mini Issue

Somehow find another XP system to test your MAXTOR. I would suspect a connection problem with the docking station and/or a USB PCI card compatibility issue. PCI USB expansion cards are notorious for chipset/driver related problems.
