H, you've got the default US keyboard layout at the moment, if you look at the bottem right of your screen there will be a little box that says us or something like that, double click it and change the keyboard to UK English, this should clear the problem. to permanently keep the UK keyboard, select the US one from the list then restatt your computer.
The keyboard may be set for a region other than yours (USA?).

[Control Panel]
[Regional and Language]
[Regional Options] tab
Click on the down-arrow on the drop-down menu
and select your region ["English (United States)"] or whatever.
[OK]
You may want to review the settings in the [Languages] tab.
