I replaced a CD-Rom with an HP dvd1040i 20x multiformat dvd writer to my HP 522 desktop and the software that came with it--Nero 7 essentials. If I put a CD in the burner to play, there is sound. If I put a DVD in the burner, the DVD will play but there is no sound. Any ideas on why the sound does not work.
I have a dell pc that has a cd player/burner. I added a hp dvd 1040i 20x multiformat dvd writer to the system. If I play a cd in it I have sound, but if i play a dvd in it, I have visual but no sound. If anyone knows the solution to this problem I would greatly appreciate it. I've checked all volume controls, sound card operability in device manager, called hp tech support and still haven't found a soultion yet.

Re: No sound on DVD's
Well, it is a problem with driver, or go to device manager, and see if the correct driver for your burner is install, and assign a letter for your device, try to see in the DVD program is there have an option for sound, and enable for it, as analog. or try software sound.

Hi there , i guess your desktop does not have DVD writer software. That's why you copy & paste the movie, your computer read your DVD as a CD. So i suggest you install Nero CD/DVD burner software & try.
Thanks & Waiting for your feedback.
The Nero software came with InCD, which is a program that allows you to drag files directly onto the CD without having to run CD burning software. It's a novel idea, but I don't think it works all that well. If you're not planning to use it, then uninstall it. If you can't find it in the "Add/Remove programs" list, then you may have to uninstall the Nero software and then reinstall it but unselect to have the InCD software installed.
Your only solution would be to do an internet search for open source dvd authoring software. If you just want to copy and burn dvd's there is a lot of open source software, you just have to try them out to see what fits your needs. Open source is free.
I think your sound device driver is corrupt. Go to control Pannel, click system, click the hardware tab and click device manager, check the sound video game controller, if there is any ! mark on the list, reinstalled it .
if you can open your desktop..try to replace the ide cable of the DVD/Cdrom it might be deffective.before you open your pc just make sure that the power is off.after changing the ide cable of your dvd the system will automatically detect your drive.if you got same problem again try to consult your hardware vendor to claim your warranty parts and service.good luck
