CD burner 'not recognized'

I tried to transfer pictures from my hard drive to a CD. The first few tries were successful. Now, I am unable to do this or platy CDs because the computer does not recognize the CD burner. Could this be the eye? Or is there something I can do.

Please and thank you in advance.

First of call check if the drive is detected in the system bios.If it is not detected there than try to reseat it.Incase it is detected than its the operating system that is not recogenising it,so we can make try these steps:
1.Go to Start>Run and type regedit.Than go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SYSTEM>CURRENT CONTROL SET>CONTROL>CLASS>{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} and remove the upper and lower filter.
2.Go to start and right click on my computer and than click on manage. On this creen go to the option which says Device manager and look for the option for the cd drive.Expand it and than right click on the option it gives you and uninstall it.After that close everything and restart the system.
3.Also similar way you can remove the primery and secondry channels in the device manager.
4.Incase it still does not work you might have to reinstall the windows.
Hope this helps

Your burner can't recognize CD.
You should restart your computer, or try to burn different mark of CD (Verbatim, Princo, etc.).

What is the best way to transfer data from my old computer to this one?

The most popular way to transfer files is to burn them to a cd. For this you would need a cd burner and a couple of blank cds. Not only are you moving the files but by burning them to a cd, you are also archiving them. You'll be thankful that you did when something goes wrong with your computer. If you have a cd burner that is compatible with cd-rw media, then you would be able to just use one cd to transfer. A cd-rw disk offers the option to erase the cd and then rewrite something else to it. Depending on the speed of your cd burner, this could be a quick or a timely process. It may be very repetitive if you have a lot of data to transfer An excellent way to transfer a couple of files from computer to computer is to transfer with a thumb drive. A thumb drive is a small hard drive that can hold anywhere between 16mb to 1 full gig. It is normally a plug and play device that you would plug into a USB port. It would show up as a removable drive in My Computer on Windows or if you a Mac user, it would show up on your desktop. If you have an older computer, you may have to install drivers for your USB ports or software for the device to be recognized. Please check your thumb drive manual for more information on the setup for different systems. If you're not afraid to open the computer up, you could just take your old hard drive and hook it up as a secondary or slave drive. This would allow you to transfer the files from hard drive to hard drive, within your computer. Before doing anything to your computer, please consult your computer manual
or an experienced computer professional . Never open your computer up while it is still plugged in.

I have a Que!M3 60GB external hard drive. All of a sudden it is making clicking noises and is not recognized by my computer. Help! This has all of my pictures saved on it!

I assume that your operating system is on another hard drive. If so, try powering down your PC, disconnecting the external drive from the computer's USB port, powering back on and then connecting the drive to a different USB port.

If your computer still does not see the drive, I'm afraid the drive has failed. You might try taking the drive to a PC technician who may have utility software which will enable him to recover your pictures.

A CD-R empty disk is not recognized by the CD drive for transfering data onto hard disk. Do I need to format ? how?

It should work by itself, if the drive can write the CD-R and it's not damaged.

Go to My Computer, right-click on the CD icon and check in Properties, under the "Recording" tab, that recording is allowed. Then under AutoPlay, check Operations and try selecting 'Record' (it shouldn't be necessary, but let's do that for luck).

Otherwise, you can always use a third-party utility - for Windows XP a very good one is CDburnerXP, freeware (I have two other CD-R programs which cost several $$$, but find myself using CDburnerXP since it's faster and way less bloated. Your mileage, as always, may vary).

Cd-R does not need formatting. They are ready to burn. There is probably a problem with your cdr drive.

A cd-rom drive is not a burner.

Are you sure you have a burner and not a cd-rom?

If you do have a burner, try another few disks. If it still says insert disk then your burner has crapped out.

CD Burner on Gateway Laptop

Sounds like the CD burner has gone out. First try doing a hardware search to see if it finds snd recognizes the CD burner. If not it will need to be replaced. Keep in mind that the drive may still read CD's fine without the ability to burn them.

Try a CD cleaner disk This is a special disk with a little brish embedded and some solution just follow the instructions. If that fails- then it is a component failure. which will mean a new drive - can you get it replaced under warranty out there?

CD burner

Sounds like an issue with the drive. Is your computer still under warranty? If so then I would call dell and get it replaced. If not, then I would replace it myself.
