Axle came out of housing . how do I repair . I think c-key came out of groove on end of shaft past spline.

Since you don't give any model specifics or state whether it is stick or hydrostatic drive I am going to assume that it is a stick shift when giving these directions

You are going to need to remove the complete trans-axle assembly and open it up. You axle splines into a gear within the differential inside the trans-axle. It is normally held in place with a snap ring versus a "c-key" (??) and it will need to be replaced whether it is broken or not. You should also inspect all the gears and the differential itself to determine why the axle came loose.
There is a lot of labor involved in doing this job and unless you are very comfortable with mechanics, it is really a job better left to professionals because there is a CERTAIN procedure for disassembling and reassembling one of these trans-axles. It is very easy to destroy the whole thing without the knowledge and experience of repairing them.

Hello How do I remove the inner CV cup from ae 100 easily from outside. I believe it has a lock inside the gear box. Thanks

Popping axles out can be a chore for the experienced mechanic as well. Just a spring steel circlipp nestled in a groove is all that is keeping it in. Often using the axle shaft as a slide hammer to push the CV-joint splined shaft back in can help to give a little room for a running start on the way back out. Two pry bars as close to 180° apart as you can get than pressure applied back and forth to walk the shaft out will produce the best results in getting the spring clip to compress back down into its groove to clear the splined inner diameter or the drive gear in the trans axle.
On occasion I have had to use a brass hammer on the prybar to coerce the shaft free.
Once or twice due to poor access in getting opposing fulcrums on the transaxle housing to pry on the cup , simply held tension on one side an tapped a wedge between the cup and housing to provide the needed pressure.
Always check for a complete spring clip once the axle is out and fish with a magnet if not.
Also avoid damaging the seal in the housing by not going directly radially in with prybar or at least by applying the pressure towards the housing so the tip of bar is not bending or cutting the seal.

1987 Toyota Camry having trouble replacing axle because the splines are offset and the axle won't go back in can u help me troubleshoot

I had a problem replacing the axles on my 88 Accord once because the splines and end of the shaft had been painted. I had to sand it down to get the axle to slide in. You also have to turn it until the splines line up in the grooves to slide in. Shouldn't take a lot of force.

How do I remove the cv axle in a ford telstar 1993 - both sides

Line the outer up in the right place and enter it until the circlip is against the splines . Use a large heavy hammer and rap the end of the shaft hard and the circlip will pop in the groove and allow the shaft to go home.. Removal from the shaft is much the same as it has a circlip inside the transmission. So remove the shaft from the wheel. Use a hammer to hit the cv joint so that it jumps the shaft out of the transmission .

Try to get a pry bar or large screwdriver between the CV housing and the transmission case. A little force may be required, but you have to pop the housing out of the transmission. A c-clip in a groove on the splined shaft is holding the shaft in, and must be popped outward, for the housing and shaft to be removed.

The axle shaft that goes into the transmission has a groove near its end with a circlip-a loose ring-in the groove. The circlip also sits in a groove inside the case. This is to keep the axle from trying to slip out the transaxle.
To get the axle out easily, shops use a fork tool around the inner CV housing, on a slide hammer-pops them out easy. A similar method is to use a pry bar or large screwdriver. Slip it in between the CV housing and the transaxle case-and give it a sharp push or shove- it will usually pop the axle out of the groove. Then the axle comes right out. Only thing you have to be careful of is not let the pry bar rest on the axle seal around the shaft. That may destroy the seal. Also be careful not to let the pry bar break the tranny case. I've done this on many cars without damage, but you could always rent the slide hammer, probably the forked tool also.
Some transaxles have a stub shaft out of the transmission, and the axle's inner CV housing has a female end that slides over the stub shaft. This set up has a roll pin through the CV housing and the stub shaft, securing axle to stub shaft. On this kind you drive out the roll pin with a punch. I'm pretty sure your caravan has the axle going into the trans. case, with the circlip on the shaft. They just get popped out. When installing, you can hear the circlip snap when it fits into the groove inside the case.

Can not get axle out of trans axle, passenger side.

Put a pry bar or large screwdriver between the transaxle case and the CV joint housing, and try to pop the axle out. Be careful of the axle seal in the transaxle case-if distorted, it will need replacing. Shops use a slide hammer with a forked end that fits around the CV joint housing to pop out the axles-if you use a prybar, you can usually pop them out. There is a circlip near the end of the axle splines that fits in a groove inside the transaxle- a little force pushes the circlip out of the groove, and axle is free to come out.

How to change a front axel do i have to lifft it off the ground

it doesnt have to be lifted but is much easier if is. The axle will have to be unbolted from the cv shaft. there are 6 15mm bolts that hold the two together. once these are seperated, tie the cv shaft out of the way and tap on the axle to get it out of the differential housing. It should pop out because there is just a ring on the end of the splines that pops into a groove. this is all on the drivers side. The passenger side is a different story. seperating the cv shaft and the axle is the same but instead of popping the axle out, the housing has to be removed. It is also 15mm bolts 6 0r 7 of them . The 4 wheel drive actuator will also have to be disconnected and there are two nuts on the opposite end from the center section of the diff.

Retaining clip?

You may have a clip that is not seating properly in the groove. Try to push the clip into the groove, work your way around the splines. You are just checking to see that it does not stick anywhere in the groove keeping it from compressing. If you replaced the clip yourself it may be spread too far open causing it to hang on the edge of the gear in the transaxle. If so remove the clip and compress it with a pair of pliers so that it is now smaller than the inside of the groove. If these are not helpful, ensure that none of the splines on the shaft or inside the trans are damaged. You may end up replacing the retaining ring it is flattened or distorted. Try applying a bit of bearing grease on the ring to persuade it. Sometimes you will have to use a rubber mallet on the outer end of the axle shaft to get the ring to go into the trans.

Section 05-02A: Axle, Integral Carrier — 8.8-Inch Ring Gear 1994 Town Car, Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis. Workshop Manual REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION Axle Shaft NOTE: Whenever replacing the rear axle lubricant, use Rear Axle Lubricant XY-90-QL (ESP-M2C154-A) or equivalent.
sra~us~en~file=ani_caut.gif~gen~ref.gif CAUTION: The rear brake anti-lock sensor must be removed before the axle shafts are removed. The rear brake anti-lock sensor is bolted on the rear disc brake caliper anchor plate.
  1. Raise vehicle to desired working height. Refer to Section 00-02 . Remove rear wheel (1007) and tire assembly. Remove rear disc brake calipers (2552) and rear disc brake rotors (2C026) .

  1. Clean all dirt from area of axle housing cover with a wire brush and/or cloth.
  1. Drain rear axle lubricant by removing the axle housing cover .
  1. Remove differential pinion shaft lock pin and differential pinion shaft .

  1. Push flanged end of the axle shafts toward the center of the vehicle and remove the rear axle shaft retaining u-washer from the button end of the axle shaft .

  1. Remove axle shaft from the rear axle housing , being careful not to damage the inner wheel bearing oil seal (1177) and rear brake anti-lock sensor ring.
NOTE: Check for presence of rear axle shaft o-ring (4A332) on the spline end of the shaft and install if not present.

  1. Carefully slide axle shaft into rear axle housing without damaging rear wheel bearing (1225) or rear brake anti-lock sensor indicator (2C189) . Start splines into side gear and push firmly until the button end of axle shaft can be seen in the differential case .
  1. Install the rear axle shaft retaining u-washer on the button end of the axle shaft splines, then pull the shaft outboard until the shaft splines engage and the rear axle shaft retaining u-washer seats in the counterbore of the differential side gear .
  1. Position the differential pinion shaft through the differential case and differential pinion gears , aligning the hole in the differential pinion shaft with the lock bolt hole. Apply Rear Axle Lubricant to differential pinion shaft lock pin .   1. Apply Silicone Rubber D6AZ-19562-AA or BA (ESB-M4G92-A or ESE-M4G195-A) or equivalent. Install axle housing cover and tighten retaining bolts to 28-38 Nm (38-52 lb-ft).

  1. Add Motorcraft Rear Axle Lubricant XY-90-QL or KL (ESP-M2C154-A) or equivalent until it is 6-14mm (1/4-9/16 inch) below bottom of fill hole. Add 118.3 mL (4 oz) of Ford Additive Friction Modifier C8AZ-19B546-A (EST-M2C118-A) or equivalent to Traction-Lok axles. Install fill plug and tighten to 20-41 Nm (15-30 lb-ft).
  1. Install rear brake anti-lock sensor indicator . Tighten retaining bolt to 4.5-6.8 Nm (40-60 lb-in).
  1. Install rear disc brake caliper and rear disc brake rotor .
  1. Install wheels and tires.
  1. Insert Rear Bearing Remover T85L-1225-AH in bore and position it behind bearing so tangs on tool engage bearing outer race. Remove rear wheel bearing and inner wheel bearing oil seal as a unit, using Impact Slide Hammer T50T-100-A.

    Rear Disc Brake Caliper Anchor Plate

  1. Lubricate the rear wheel bearing with Rear Axle Lubricant.

  1. Install rear wheel bearing into the housing bore using Axle Tube Bearing Replacer T78P-1225-A.

If inner wheel bearing oil seal becomes cocked in bore during installation, remove it and install a new one.
  1. Install the inner wheel bearing oil seal using Axle Tube Seal Replacer T78P-1177-A. Use Premium Long-Life Grease XG-1-C or K (ESA-M1C75-B) or equivalent between the lips of the inner wheel bearing oil seal .

  1. Install axle shafts as outlined.
