Question about Dell Inspiron 9100 Notebook

2 Answers

I have an Inspiron 9100. The cat (don't ask how!) managed to pull 2 keys off K and L if it matters. I have all the bits, and advice on reassembing them. They are the white clip variety.

Sounds like bad Keyboard, about $20 on EBay. If that doesn't resolve, then it will be a motherboard.

Keyboard functions changed

Sounds much like the shift key (on the right of the keyboard obviously) has got stuck. Or possibly your cat has managed to turn on the marvel that is StickyKeys.

I have the dell 9100 and recently my sound stopped working. No sound

Provided that the audio is not disabled in the BIOS or muted in the volume controls and that the driver is properly installed, then the next step is re-seating the F2 cooling fan assembly (The audio board is part of the fan assembly, don't ask me why)
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins9100/sm/fan.htm#1000550
If re-seating doesn't resolve then replacing the fan assembly is next.

How do you replace the keyboard on a dell inspiron 9100? I have a bad "Esc" key. The key is gone and the clip that holds the key on is off. So I am going to buy a key board on ebay and replace either the...

First you have to remove the plastic molding that is between the keyboard and the monitor hinges. There are 3 or 4 little screws just above the F keys that will have to be removed. Slide the keyboard towards the monitor, and it will come out. You will have to unplug the ribbon cable from the motherboard. Reverse the procedure, and you will be good to go.

Good luck, and thank you for rating this response.

No wireless network

I also have the Inspirion 9100. It is very finicky, try going thru the Setup wizard again and reset-up your wireless connection. If that doesn't do it...you might get a can of compressed air and use in the wireless card slot (if your using a wireless card), the bottom and on the keyboard. Surprisingly enough, I did the keyboard and the underside of the unit and it solved several minor lingering hardware problems.
