You won't be able to get one from the web. the only option is to buy one or find someone with a similar computer with yours and and who uses the very same window as yours.

if this does not work for you, then consider to replace the current operating system by running set up either with an xp disc or vista.

perhaps you will have to follow all the prompts and when it comes to a point of formatting just ignore it and continue anyway. this willmake you not to loose any of your data and documents but keep it.

in case you need actual prompt on how to do this, plaese feel free to send me a comment and i will gladly attend to it.

thank you

Have you tried booting off of your restore disc? During startup you can boot from a CD, DVD, or thumb drive by holding "C" while booting. You can also try starting into recovery system by pressing "R" and "command" keys while booting, but I'd reccommend trying the bootable disc method first. Hope this helps!

When this screen is seen with XP, the system must start up by pressing 'Enter' key. If it doesn't, the O/S might be currupted due to improper shut down. If it is the case, you have to load XP again, by inserting the system disc. Here it seems that, the system tries to boot, but fails. A clear indication of currupted O/S.

Most PC's built in this time frame no longer shipped with a separate set of recovery CD's. Instead, the manufacturer provided a separate partition on the hard drive that contained the recovery program. To access this program, you would first shut off the system and disconnect all peripherals other than your keyboard and mouse. Then start the computer, pressing the F10 key on your keyboard repeatedly as the HP/Compaq logo appears. A recovery menu would appear, giving you the option to perform either a standard recovery or, under the Advanced options, a destructive recovery. The standard recovery will attempt to repair the system, leaving any of your data files intact. The destructive recovery option erases everything, then restored the computer to its original, out of box configuration.
Unfortunately, the recovery partition is on the hard drive itself, so if your problem is due to a hardware failure rather than simply a software crash, the above steps will not work. If this is the case, you will need to contact HP/Compaq and request a restore CD. The following link will take you to their website, and walk you through the process of determining if a set of recovery discs are available for your PC. Select your operating system from the drop down menu and then follow the link labeled Recovery Media.

Still Shuts down

Try a system repair with your recovery disc or operating system disc. If the repair doesn't work, the you will have to do a complete reload of the system. If the problem persists, then it's an indicator that the hard drive is failing and will need to be replaced.
