Had the same problem with my Pixma MX700. Spoke with a technician at Canon who indicated that the error message is typically due to an issue with the cartridge casing not being able to move freely back and forth. He suggested making sure there was no packaging or tape along the track where the cartridge casing runs.
For me, there was nothing there and I could see the box run smoothly along the track and still got the error 6A90. Tried a power down, unplugging the device, and starting again - still no good.
Final solution was to bring the device to a local Canon service technician or have Canon send a box to return the device and have it replaced with a refurbished model. I'm electing to bring it to a local technician.
Fully covered since it's within one-year of purchase (need to bring proof of purchase).

What is error code 5700?

Hi,

I have seen this error a few times through the use of our inklink products.

The error 5700 is as follows:
This error takes place when feeding paper
from the ASF after an error occurred in the
ASF cam sensor.

Make sure that there is no paper jammed in the printer and nothing is blocking the paper path.

Canon MP520 error message 6A80 - Have tried switching on and off at wall no help. Judy

6A80 error is an APP position error caused by the APP motor during the purging operation as the printer starts up. Canon states that one of three components is likely to have failed, the sheet feed unit, purge unit or logic board. All of these will be almost impossible to get as a spare part. The only thing worth trying is an EEPROM reset that can be done using the service manual. Get a copy here: http://www.tradebit.com/filedetail.php/4981053-canon-pixma-mp520-printer-service-manual

Canon is fairly standard with their error codes no matter the model. Error Code 5700 basically means the paper sensor is not working properly. If this is the case then you will need to buy another printer. Most repair shops will charge more to fix the old one then you would spend on a new one. Sorry for the bad news. Although, I would strongly suggest you contact Canon Tech Support to validate this information. You can reach them at the number below between 8AM and 12 Midnight EST. Good Luck!

Canon MP520 can print but not scan

I had the same problem. The all-in-one driver download doesn't include the stuff you need for the scanner. Go to this link (canon), click "OSX" on the dropdown list for what os you're using, then click "mp520sosxsd1391ej7.dmg" under "MP520 series Scanner Driver Ver. 13.9.1 (Mac OS X 10.2/10.3/10.4/10.5/10.6)." It doesn't take long to download and completely fixes the problem.

Canon MP520 Error 6A80 has occurred -

Hi @ all,

i got the same problem. I did some google search and found the tip below:

  1. Start with printer off
  2. Press and hold resume Button (triangle in the circle) and click “Power” button. green led should be on
  3. While holding the Power button, release the Resume Button.
  4. Without releasing the Power Button, click “Resume” button for two times and release Both Buttons.
  5. Click “Resume” for four times then soon click “Power” button, to confirm the selected action (reset counter absorber).
  6. Turn off the printer and turn on again
But doing this another menue appeared and i pressed okay and swithched the printer off. I did 3 times and finally the error disappeared. Now i am really happy because my printer is still working. Hope it will help you to fix your problems with this error.

Hi there,

I opened the printer, and pushed gently on the lever that holds/releases the print head, and this seemed to release whatever was stuck. After this the print head moved freely on turning on the printer/copier.
