For that you will need OCR software, one of the best is OmniPage Professional.

How to scan in hp scanjet g2410

First install the required drivers for the HP Scanjet G2410 Flatbed Scanner.
Simple way is to scan is use PICASA

GOTO http://picasa.google.com/
Download picasa 3.8
  1. Make sure everything is connected and turned on!
  2. Put the photo on the glass of the scanner - face down
  3. In Picasa, click 'Import'
  4. Click the arrow for the drop down list of devices. You should see your scanner listed ... select it
  5. Now you will see a screen that depends on your scanner. There should be an option to 'Preview'. Click that.
  6. You should now see your picture, there may be some settings you want to change here, but if it looks OK then
  7. Click the button to Scan
  8. When it's done scanning, you're back at the standard Picasa Import screen. Click Import all.
  9. Select a folder to put it in. I made a folder called 'Old Photos' for the first one, then, for each subsequent scanned photo, I selected that existing folder from the drop-down list.

How do I get it to scan the photo? I can't find a start button HP ScanJet 5300C

You must download the HP ScanJet 5300 C install and user disk for some of the basic functions to work, they are all based on Windows context and program menu. By context, we mean that the installed TWAIN driver will allow other applications to select and scan from this scanner quite easily. So once the correct drivers are downloaded, you will need a photo or scanning software, for example, Adobe Elements, MS Photoeditor, and a favorite everywhere, IRFANview which is free and available on CNET as a download. It supports all manner of import and Twain device scanning and does so with ease and many useful photo tools, too.

Good luck!

Bad contrast with scanner

Last things first: NO USER SERVICEABLE PARTS INSIDE.

That's the way HP does things. There are no rheostats or pots to adjust. It's all done electronically now, with chips and things.

You never said how it does with color or greyscale photos or drawings.

As for the RGB=(64,64,64), that's about right for the scan picture settings and the mixed (text and graphics) setting, and is particularly true for color picture settings. Have you tried using the setting for drawings (or line art), specifically greyscale drawings? Usually the greyscale lineart or drawing setting will render black text. You might also try scanning with the settings set for Text. If the greyscale drawing settings or greyscale text settings do not produce black text, try reinstalling your software and drivers.

If the contrast stays the same for all settings after reinstalling the software and drivers, and if it doesn't scan color and greyscale pictures correctly, then it sounds like your scanner is going bad.

As for the scans you've already done, you can darken the text by taking it into a photo editor, such as Paint Shop Pro or Photo Shop, and adjust the contrast and brightness to get the effect you desire.

I did not find to drivers and controllers by my hp scanjet 5100c

Sorry to say, but the ScanJet 5100c is not a Vista compatible unit.
The same thing happened with some of the earlier HP units when XP came out.
This is not the only piece of equipment out there that is not supported in Vista, it is too old for them to write drivers for.

HP does offer a trade ups option for older equipment. You can read about it here http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01123715&lc=en&cc=us&lang=en&dlc=en&product=61840

Blank Scan from HP Scanjet 5590 Flatbed Auto Feed

Scanning is possible in 'Text' mode and 'Picture' Mode. In text mode, which is simple 'Black & White", this can happen, particulalrly if the text is in color. Either you increase the contrast settings or scan the document in Grey/color and convert it to B&W using the software. By this you need not check if there is output!. ( I am assuming that otherwise the scanner is performing okay). File size in B&W is very small as compared to Grey/color.
