More likely the volume control wheel on the front of the laptop has been bashed and damaged, try pushing in - lifting - pushing down on the wheel and holding while playing some music. If you can get music to play properly you have found the problem.

Sound comes and goes on the drive channel, and there is a strange crackling on the clean channel. i dont know if its the tubes, the speaker, or electronics.

Using a common lead pencil, gently tap on the smaller tubes in the unit, listening for noises and crackling to change and the drive channel changes.

It is normal to get a slight twang when doing this from the microphonics of the tubes, however, the crackling and up and down volume points to a bad tube.

Alesis M1 Active 620 studio monitor cutting out

I see from the manual there are several controls on the speaker that could affect the sound in the way you describe (gain, hi- and mid-boost, acoustic space). Why don't you compare the actions of each control with the working speaker as the standard and a test tone or FM noise as the source? It might help you to identify a specific internal function that has changed. After that, someone's going to have to crack it open and do surgery.

You might also try using the opposite input (TRS vs XLR) than the one you're using. It might reveal something.

I have a powered sub for my surround sound and every now and then its starts crackling and popping. i can make it stop by playing with the volume knob or even tapping it sometimes. my old sub did the same...

Does the crackling and popping sound comes only from the sub, or from the other speakers too? Try switching of to check. I think that it is problem on volume control potentiometer. In that case all the speakers must sound crackling and popping. If the problem is only in the sub you have to check its connections.

I have a beomaster 2200 and the sound will only come from one speaker, I have checked the speakers and these are ok. When I move the balance control I get a loud crackle noise. Many Thanks John Bailey

if the loud crackle noise is in the speaker that doesnt work you may have a problem with the balance control itself or int. contacts in the switchbank.clean and lube both for starters.

My laptop making cracking noises.

Is the noise when your opening and closing the laptop? How about when moving the laptop around? Is it a fairly loud noise from the hard drive area? What about the fan/s? See the article listed here for suggestions: http://icompute.info/laptop_noises.htm

Crackling noise from subwoofer????

sgangsta91,

i think your speaker cannot support the sound that your computer produce. it means to say that, they are not compatible. specially when your computer sound interface that you used is 5.1 or 7.1 interface but your speaker specs is only for generic sound, you really hear a crackling sound and more if you set to higher volume.

but it can help if you only set your computer interface to generic sound or set only in lower volume it can help. because if you continue that way, your speaker can be seriously damaged that even at the lowest volume can hear the crackling sound.

or if you really want a fine good sound system then, buy a speaker that can interface with 5.1 or 7.1 or see manuals of your computer/motherboard. for recommended specs

Check to see if the sound drive installed properly from the device manager. Try uninstalling the driver and doing a hardware search. Then check the sound settings to make sure nothing is muted or turned down. Some driver need manual adjusting.
