Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

I'm getting light brown/red marks on clothing when doing a 40 deg wash. Machine occasionally stops on hotter temperature washes (60 deg), no error code just the green program active light flashing. I'm wondering if the heater element is compromised and the insulating material is causing the marks? Machine is a Zanussi WJS1665W

The problem is the wash comes out with brown flecks all over it. I have taken out the agitator and cleaned it, this hasn't changed the result, still brown flecks all over wash

WASH PERFORMANCE INFORMATION
9.1 Creasing
Creasing can be caused by over loading the washer or the dryer. Permanent Press or Delicate
cycles have been designed to minimise creasing as they use a lower spin speed. Do not leave wet
clothes to sit in the washer or laundry basket.
9.2 Soiling
Soiling is the result of insufficient detergent for the load. White clothes are better washed
separately. Separate lightly and heavily soiled items, as clothes can pick up soil from dirty wash
water. Cold water below 68oF / 20 oC does not wash effectively. Select the wash temperature
according to soil type. For example, blood and mud are better washed in cold water, while sweat
and oil based soil wash better in warmer water. Loads made up of articles of varying sizes will
wash better (e.g. full loads of sheets may not wash that well). Hard water requires more detergent
than soft water.
9.3 Linting
Wash lint givers (eg. towels, flannelette sheets) separately from lint collectors (eg. synthetic
fabrics). Over loading the washer can increase the likelihood of linting. Insufficient detergent for
the load can increase linting as there will not be enough detergent to hold the lint in suspension.
Over drying synthetic fabrics in a dryer can cause a build-up of static electricity and result in the
fabrics attracting lint.
9.4 Detergent Residue
Over loading the washer can result in detergent residue being caught in the creases of the fabrics.
If this occurs, decrease the load size. Some detergents need to be pre-dissolved. Check the
instructions for the detergent. Cold ambient temperatures, cold washes or short agitation times
may not let the detergent dissolve properly. In these cases pre-dissolve the detergent.
Overdosing of detergent can also cause residue when foam breaks down and will show as white
specs on the clothing. Poor quality detergents can result in residue.
9.5 Black Marks on Clothes
A build up caused by the interaction of fabric softener and detergent (scrud) can flake off and mark
clothes. Do not use too much fabric softener, maximum 75cc. If this is a problem, it is
recommended that the machine is periodically filled with hot water, plus 1-2 cups of dishwasher
powder and left to soak.
9.6 Grey Marks on Clothes
Not enough detergent for the amount of soil on the clothes can result in grey marks on clothes. If
this is a problem it is recommended that the machine be periodically filled with hot water, plus
detergent and left to soak.
9.7 Dye Transfer
Wash and dry non-colorfast clothes separately. Non colorfast clothes left sitting in a washer or
laundry basket can transfer dye to other clothes.
9.8 Tangling
Washing with too much water (i.e. under loading) can cause the clothes to tangle around each
other. Do not load the machine by wrapping clothes around the agitator.

Brown marks on clothes. I have put the machine on a boil wash with nothing in it. washed all pars of machine and it is still happing, Please help

Hello,

Does the drum sound noisy when it spins if it does then I would suspect the bearings are badly worn and the grease from the bearing is getting inside the drum.

Hope this helps.

Indesit moon black marks only on hot wash

This is from not enough HOT loads.

Fatty deposits gather between the basket and tub during COLD washes.

Then they are being released in large numbers when you do your whites on HOT.

It is recommended to do 1 HOT load per week.

Do an empty load with some degreaser added (like Goo-Gone) on the fullest/hottest setting you have.

Brown sludge under drum making washing dirty

Hi,

You can try to wash on a high temperature with some soda instead of washingpowder.
And offcourse without any clothing in it.
Due the modern washingmethode's the temperature is always very low.
Then you get some dirt sticked into your machine.
We had the same problem, but it's solved now.

Hope it helps,
Gerard

Brown, rust-like marks on washing

Hello I got a Bosch ClassXX5 and got the same problem, white clothes seemed Grey and some clothes seemed washed but not perfectly, until I discovered that the washing machine did not heat water anymore; after the end of the wash cycle the clothes were cold as the program was initially setup to 40C°.....

I used to think soaps were not up to the task and changed brand often, sadly a Bosch product letting me down was not on my mind, since that brand for me was above the rest, quality, strong, during in the time, having electric tools from Bosch without any problem for years!

Brown marks on white clothes

Hi yoginiji,
The black mould might have something to do with the marks - I think it builds up if you only ever use low-temperature programmes. I believe that running the machine on a hot wash cycle - perhaps with some proprietory cleaner (but with no clothes in it) might help to get rid of it. I would suggest first removing as much as possible by hand.
Another, more serious possibility is that the drum bearing seals are leaking grease into the wash tub. If nothing is done the bearings will fail and result in a nasty repair bill. If your machine is under warranty, now is the time to contact the repair people.

Does this help? If not please give any more details you have and I'll try to think of something else :-)
