That sounds like the inverter that powers the back-light. Unless it's really annoying I would just live with it. It's probably more expensive to repair than to buy a new similar sized screen.

How many months or years of your monitor that you are using? Do you check the outlet, cables? It's seems that your monitor has a problem because i read your observation that your monitor seems to be replace a new one. That's the monitor's problem.

My hp 1730 monitor remains black. I can faintly see the display, close-up, but it is close to black. I just tried it on my other computer and it still does not work

The screen finely went out and it cant display any more. is it old? do you leave it on alot?

The screen probably burnt out. Or you just have the contrast or brightness turned all the way down.

Check these

Check the brightness settings. It may be turned down to zero. Otherwise check you have the cable in the right connection.

Screen went dark (almost completely)

check your power cord and make sure it's plugged in all the way, and if it is, check your brightness setting.

Usually it's the Fn key + an arrow key. Make sure the brightness is up all the way

if your laptop still turns on but doesnt display. change out the fl inverter. if that doesnt fix it then its your lcd screen. but i suggest first changing the inverter.

Humming noise on HP Pavilion dv9000

I have a dv6000 and its makes a insect tlike noise. i returned it and  got another one but that one also made the same noise. so i contacted hp and they told me that the sound is coming from the USB ports, i thought wierd but here is the solution to your problem. go to computer managment (start>right click my computer> manage), click on device manager, select the universal serial bus contollers ( there should be a few roots files that open up), right click a usb root hub and select properties, click the power managment tab, and uncheck "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". do this for every USB root hub that you have, and the problem should go away. FYI these instructions are for windows XP.

Sounds like cold soider joints on your video board. If you take apart the lcd screen and get to the video board, theres 4 capasitors with cooper coils around it. you can add soider to it. theres 2 pins for each. I fixed 15 or more for that same model. Its a known problem with that model. Hope it wworks for ya
