Question about Apple iPod MA446LL/A MP3 Player

1 Answer

Selected songs won't play

My Ipod seems ok until you try to get a song to play. It just stays at 0 secs and doesn't play anything. Tried restoring and reseting. Cannot get the defrag to work. Help Please!

Haven't really got a clicking noise, just a whirring as it goes to play and then nothing. Have tried replacing all the songs on it twice. Still can't get the defrag to work, though I don't know if this is much use. Thanks for the help by the way.

What happened after you restored the iPod? Did you transfer the songs again and again, they didn't work? If so, your hard drive is probably defective, have you heard it making clicking noises?

Defragging probably won't make much of a difference. You can try running the internal hard drive test (connect it to the power adapter when you do this). You'd need to start it up in diagnostic mode (after restarting by holding the Menu and Select buttons, you need to hold the Rewind and Select buttons until it goes into diagnostic mode) and then follow the directions on the page I linked to, to run the hard drive test. It will take a few minutes and should let you know whether your hard drive is okay or not. If it isn't, then you need to replace it and if you're comfortable opening the iPod, it isn't too difficult. If you aren't, you're probably better off selling it on eBay as broken (can get you anywhere from $50-$110) than giving it to a technician who will cost more money than it's worth.

I connected my ipod to a computer to download music. i have not downloaded music for several years and it now seems that i have erased my existing songs. can i restore them

If you backed up your iPod in iTunes before it synced with your iPod you may be able to restore your songs. In iTunes, plug your iPod into the computer and right click on your iPod when it appears in iTunes. You should see a Restore Backup or similar choice in the Right Click menu. Try restoring the backup. If this doesn't work, you won't be able to recover your music.

My ipod nano keeps playing the same song over and over, even on shuffle.

The shuffle setting is essentially random, which does _not_ mean that you won't hear the same song again until all other songs play. You might even hear the same song twice in a row, I suppose.

Are you hearing the same group of songs, and your other songs _never_ play?

If you scroll manually to a song that you haven't heard, and start play from there, does it revert to that same group songs, or play on to others?

All else failing, have you tried to restore your iPod?

Have you tried changing the playback settings in your iTunes preferences? You should be able to adjust the setting to make it _less_ likely for songs to repeat. I don't know how that would transfer to the iPod..

Hope this message can be fix to your ipod nano.

Red X Display That Won't Allow Reset or Getting Into Disk Mode

It sounds like your iPod may have a hard drive that has developed bad data blocks. When the iPod tries to play a song that has been written to a bad data block, it will then skip that song and move to another song.
You can find replacement drives at sites like ebay, or by searching Google. We also have them available for sale.
Hope this helps!

MY IPOD WONT PLAY MUSIC!!!

Go to www.apple.com to reacquire manual - it does help - this is a db corruption, which requires firmware, which is one of the 5 R's

Reset, Retry, Restart, Reinstall, Restore
Remember these five basic suggestions if you have a problem with your iPod nano. If
one of the following doesn’t help, read on for solutions to specific problems.
â Reset your iPod nano. See “General Suggestions,” below.
â Retry with a different USB port if you cannot see iPod nano in iTunes.
â Restart your computer and make sure you have the latest software updates
installed.
â Reinstall iPod and iTunes software from the latest versions on the web.
â Restore your iPod nano. See “Updating and Restoring iPod Software” on page 50.

Songs will not play!

I AM THE ANTIMAC! (Get a Zune - or any other generic mp3 player)
Hrrmm, could it be the file format? iPod plays m4a files, so if they're wma or something like that, it won't work. Have you played the current songs on it before with any luck? Did it stop in the middle of a song, at the end of a song or did it not work at all? With what method did you get the music on there? Download (Free/at cost?), Ripped from CD (What format? Using what program?).

Shows songs, but doesnt play them

Have you tried holding the select (center) and menu buttons together? This will completely reset your iPod to its factory settings, whereupon you can plug it into your computer and sync your songs back.

I'd recommend restoring the firmware to the latest version as well, even if you had the most current version installed, as this will usually aid with these kinds of software-induced problems.
