Question about Maytag MBB2256G Bottom Freezer Refrigerator
Hello everyone, I have a quick question. Long story short, my
fridge/freezer stopped being cold. Called a company to check it out and
guy said it was the start relay. He wanted to charge me 210 to fix it.
So (having sold appliances ages ago and wondering why a small part was
so much) I do some research and every forum I could find said it was an
easy repair. So I went down to the local parts store, bought the relay,
and replaced it. I even made sure the old one was really broken (it
looked partly melted and when shaken, it would rattle). SO after
replacing it, nothing at all seems to be fixed. Hours later it still
does not cool. While I am find paying (losing?) the thirty bucks on the
relay since it seemed it needed replacement, I am at a loss for what to
do. Am I missing a small step that everyone but me knows haha. Any help
would be great. Thanks a lot in advance.
You need to RETRACE your steps & figure EXACTLY where EACH WIRE was...
I ALWAYS recommend taking pictures (BEFORE)...
and the real PROFESSIONALS use wire tags...
you are left with getting the schematic
(usually on the appliance back) and tracing
each wire.. to their logical connection...
It is possible the relay was just a symptom...
for a motor capacitor FAILURE.
Food for thought.
Check AMAZON for non contact voltage testers...
One way NOT TO GET ELECTROCUTED.
Or (disconnect and) apply voltage directly to
the motor wire to see if the motor runs
(pretty good way to get electrocuted).
I you live... you will learn... Sometimes it is
cheaper/better to let a professional at it...
(not my usual opinion... but once the wires are
all yanked off... (I'm just saying)).

It sounds like the Tech only did half his job and seen that the start device was burned up and called it that and didnt check the compressor or you got a bad start device or, you didnt put it on corectly or the thermostat in the refrigferator is off.
When you put the new start device on and you pluged the machine on, Did the condensor fan come on (the fan right by the commpressor ??)
If that fan came on and the compressor did not start.
the windings in the compressor could be bad and you will need a compressor for that machine.
