Question about Scotsman Cooled Modular Contour Cuber Remote Condensed 425lbs

1 Answer

Scotsman CME250 ice machine, compressor will only turn on if you press and hold the button on the contactor. Everything else checks out ok. I dont see anything broke on contactor, so what is supposed to keep the button in for the contacts to touch?

Thanks for your reply. It turned out to be the timer on the board was bad. So the thermostat wasn't receiving its power either. Your solution was correct, the problem was just further back. Thanks again

The thermostat energizes the contactor. If it is bad, thus you problem.

The problem could be a series of things beginning with ambient temperatures too high, fan not working properly, if water cooled there could be a problem with that also. As a technician I would first look over the condenser and make sure air flow is proper and then attach my gauges to see the suction and discharge pressures. I have found many restaurants that keep their ice machines in the hot kitchen where it creates high ambient temperatures and allows grease from the grill to collect on the condenser blocking air flow. Yes under charged is possible or over charged but the best and most effective route is to call a Scotsman Certified Technician. I have worked on Scotsman's and they are very tricky to fix unless you know the process of event. If water is not pre-filtered there is a chance that the water control valve may be stuck open allowing warm water to continue flowing causing these symptoms. Here Is a=> Scotsman CME250 Ice Machine User Manual If unable to find these simple checks above or from the manual and still having problems it will need to be time to call a Technician. If you do not have Adobe Reader Click Here=> Adobe Reader X (10.1.0) Tell me what you find and please don't rate me if I was unable to solve this from here. I am here to help you up and to the point of calling Scotsman for addition help. Thanks, Sea Breeze

If it is going into harvest but the ice is to thick causing it to stick and not letting it drop then you need to adjust the ice thickness sensor it dose not need to be no more distance than 1/8 of an inch between face of sensor and evaporator plate you can use a 1/8 drill bit flat between sensor face and ice plate use a 1/4 nut driver to adjust the sensor.

I am an hvac student one of my labs is to trouble shoot an scotsman ice machine it will not turn on on with switch i have proper voltage to the contactor but nothing out i didnt know if another process...

The contactor is opeated by the 24 volt controller / transformer. The contactor is CLOSED by the controller to allow current to flow to the fan & compressor.

Scotsman ice machine(sce 275g)

The older cubers were opperated by a cube size thermostat. when the temp reached the cube size tstat setting it would energize a harvest timer motor and this timer would continue running through a holding switch on the timer. when the cam comes around and the micro switch drops the water is introduced (it would be warm) and the hot gas from the refrigerant would be introduced to the evaporator causing the cubes to drop. at the end of the cycle the cam pushes op in the holding switch and finally open it and because the cube size tstat is now warm the timer motor stops.
The timer had a white plastic stem with a 1/4" D shaft. It would only turn clockwise. Try looking for this and advancing it to see if your sol valve will open or get voltage to the valve.
