If you are hearing clicking noises with the message you received, your hard drive is near mechanical failure. If youre tech savvy, you can replace the hard drive and reinstall the operating system (or use the recovery cds or dvds you were asked to create when you first set up the computer). If youre not adventurous, youll need tech help for this. Head to your local computer repair shop. Expect to spend at least $200.

The clicking sound is most likely the "Click of Death" an indicator of a failed hard disk drive. The drive is having a hardware malfunction and the read/write armature in the drive is moving back and forth against the internal stops (this gives the click)
Replace the hard drive in the system

HP Pavilion a1410n Disk Boot failure

After pressing F1 confirm that the master drive is listed in the boot setup program.. If the drive is not listed confirm that the electrical connection from the new power supply is correctly connected to the drive. Failing to correctly connect the hard drive during power supply replacements is most likely the problem. Also confirm the SATA connections to the drive.

Confirm that the drive gets warm and a slight vibration when power is first turned on confirming the disc drive is spinning.

Hope this helps?

I have a hp pavilion pc and it says boot disk failure please insert disk and press enter

Hi,

Turn the computer off and then disconnect all the external devices like (printer, usb devices etc)connected to the computer along with the cable for the internet .Then disconnect the cable for power that would be right on top at the back panel of the computer tower and with the power cable disconencted press and hold the power button for atleast 30 seconds.Turn the computer on if it takes you to the desktop then it means that there is some external device that is causing the computer not to come up to the desktop so find which deveice has gone bad check it by conecting one device at a time.

Next thing that you can try is turn the computer off and then when you turn the computer on or as soon as you press the power button to turn the computer on start tapping the F8 key repeatedly until you get a black screen that says advance boot menu option .Then used the arrow keys on the keyboard and then hit enter, select the operating system and then when you get the log on screen select administrator .If it takes you to the desktop then you can try doing a restore by going to start?all programs ?accessories?system tools and then system restore ? select the date when you think that you r computer was working fine and then click on next next to exit from the wizard.Should fix the issue .

If the computer does not boot up to the desktop then without wasting time on any trobleshooting steps recovery needs to be done that takes the computer back to its original factory settings. To do this instead of the f8 key tap the f11 key till you get the screen that says system recovery ,click next until you get the screen that has advance option ?click on it ?select destructive recovery ?click next the recovery will start and the computer will be formated (whatever you have added after you bought the computer would be lost) ?If the recovery does not work this was then it needs to be done from the recovery disks and fot that you call call HP...

all the best

My HP Slimline s3100n pc crashed and will power on but nothing shows up on the screen. How do i fix this?

Are you able to enter the BIOS ? If no then it's a major hardware failure, most likely the motherboard. If yes then check that the hard disk is still recognized; if it is then reinstall (or Repair, if you are bold) Windows and try to identify the cause of the crash - start by testing the hard disk using HDTune.

Gateway computer won't boot up and gives an error message pxe-mofIt also makes a clicking sound when trying to boot up

Sounds like you have lost the partition containing your boot.ini file. The clicking sound you are hearing could be a mechanical clue that the read/write head is slapping back and forth and not reading the drive. This type of failure is unrecoverable and is a total loss except for a data recovery company, they would remove the platters and manually retrieve the data.

I got a laptop of a friend and i want to rebbot it because they never gave me the user name password or a disk..How can i reboot it to the factory setting?

Hi,
HP laptop don't come with recovery CD's they have a hidden recovery partition on them.
To access the partition turn on the computer. When the initial blue HP screen appears Press the "F10" key. A Recovery menu will appear. Click on "NEXT" and then click on "YES" Your system will now go through the product recovery.

Good luck

What virus scanner do you use and when did you scan last? Your description sounds like the hard drive is failing but without more information no one can say for sure.

I own a hp pavilion slimline s3100n computer. Yesterday I turned it on and it kept freezing on me, so I did a system recovery and that helped nothing. Now when I turn it on the blue power light comes on...

I had a similar problem that when I turn on the power, the blue power light comes on but nothing occurs, even the bios page. For a while it succeeded to boot every several tries but it became necessary to try tens of times before it booted correctly. After it started the machine ran quite well, except when I make the machine sleep, then the machine would never wake up.
I found that the MB for s3100n has a common problem of this sort and HP even has sent out an email warning possible failure. When it actually happened to my machine it was too late: the warranty has expired more than a year. The replacement MB was above $250 and even if I buy it it is likely to fail again.
What I did instead was to get a microATX case with power supply, CPU cooler and a mother board and reuse all other parts from the failed s3100n. I wanted to reuse the DDR2-800 memory (my memory was upgraded) and athlon X2 4000+, so Asrock N68-S motherboard was a good choice. You can recycle HDD, DVD burner (SATA), card reader and wireless (internal USB), keyboard and mouse (PS2) as well. It was the first time I replaced a mother board but the case and mobo manual contained enough information to do the wiring. If your HDD is good Windows vista will boot in the new hardware. Get new drivers from Asrock/NVidia and install them to get the graphics and audio working correctly. Don't forget to re-activate Windows Vista using the product key which is stickered on the side of the s3100n chassis before you throw it away.

Disk boot faliure please insert disk and press enter

Sounds like your hard drive has failed and became corrupted or the boot sequence is causing this on the motherboard. I reccommend entering CMOS setup if you can and changing the boot sequence to putting the hard drive first and if that doesn't work insert a recovery disk in during the disk boot failure...please insert disk and press enter screen. Jus make sure to press enter after inserting the disk if that is done...and if that fails I suggest replacing your hard drive with a similar one of equal value and qualities.

New HDD inserted into Pavilion ZD7000 - will not boot from XP CD

Try your old HDD in it and see if that works. If it does work then nothing is damaged except your DVD drive/Controller. Try putting the new HDD in another computer, installing windows then putting it back in the HP. If all else fails then flash the bios with an updated image and see if that rectifies the problem.
