Lens was hit by a pillow while extended and will not retract. Tried removing batteries and replacing them, not effect. Nothing shows on screen except "Cannon" logo when powering on. Any ideas what we can do? Thanks!

If the camera's lens will not retract out, then eventually shuts down, here is what you try to do.
Hold the camera from your right hand with the lens facing down. Then tap the base of the camera to your left palm while turning the camara on; do this several times until the camera's lens retracts out.
This problem often occur when the camera was taken outdoor or in the beach. Sand or a tiny granule of dirt might got stuck in the base of the lens.
Try removing and replacing batteries to reset the camera. Ensure that batteries are fully charged.
If that does not clear the problem, then the lens error is
usually caused by mechanical faults concerning lens
assembly. This happens because there is dirt inside the lens (sand
dust), or one part in the lens assembly is bad or went out of place.
Because of this he lens cannot extend or retract fully, the error is
detected and lens error is returned.
Sometimes this can be fixed
playing with the lens during extraction or retraction to help the lens
asset getting back to normal.
If if does not extend tapping gently the back of the camera, and if it
does not retract helping lens back in while turning camera respectively
on and off.
More often the camera lens must be disassembled and re-assembled by a technician to fix the problem.
Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...
Hi, When system control does not get lens initialize signal while extending it, then it try again by folding it and extending and still no required initialize signal then generate error and stop further functions.
Please remove battery and open camera and remove flexible wire of lens mechanism from connector, there would be lock that needs to release to remove flexible wire. Clean wire terminals with alcohol, let it dry and put back flexible wire in connector and lock it. Now put battery and power camera up, hopefully lens will work properly.

appears to be power issue in the camera but you can try the lithium AA batteries that are located in the photo section of your stores... they are more powerful than regular AA batteries or else send to repair shop
Hitting camera on desk once has partial fix.
When camera's batteries taken out & then put back in and the power on button pressed to switch camera on, the lens extends out & the camera now works.
BUT when the power button pressed to switch camera off the lens retracts AND a "Lens Error" msg appears on the LCD screen.
Just have to take batteries out to remove msg & start again as above but WITHOUT hitting the camera.
