My Compaq x1000 notebook won't boot. It powers on but the disk light just blinks (and makes a clicking sound). I replaced the disk and the symptoms are the same. It won't boot into set up and it isn't booting off the cdrom. Any suggestions graciously appreciated.

Possible
1)Select boot device as CD ROM in BIOS setting try again.if it not solves problem go to next step
2) Make sure that your CD-ROM is working or not.
3)Reset the BIOS to their default setting and try again

Does the screen come alive or is it just dark. Mine has a defective video card, I think, and will only boot correctly when I push hard on the case above the f5/f6 keys. Then the screen comes alive but only while I maintain pressure. I bought a used card and am replacing it to see if there is still a problem. DC orgwood@iaxs.net
