Have a Satellite A105-S4547 with windows vista 32 bit upgraded ram from 2g to 4g. Problems: it doesn't like being moved around- it will shut down if I'm on a soft surface like sofa or bed. Screen freezes only way to fix is by manual power down ( ctrl alt delete doesn't work.) Then it might come back up can take hours for it to work. Also hasn't been able to install any windows updates since June 09. Help?

I use a lap desk thing when I was on the sofa but have had it on a desk and not moved it for the past 6 mos. Yep! RAM shows 4g. When installed removed all power and used a anti-static band around wrist. Also removed all registry problems with registry mechanic and checked all service bulletins on

Hello, First thing is that you should never place any laptop that has the fan on the bottom of the case on a soft surface. What you are doing is cutting off air circulation to the computer and it is overheating. That can cause numerous problems with the computer. There needs to be a space (however small) under the laptop to draw in air for cooling. Secondly, Is the RAM the correct kind? Does it all show up when you right-click Computer>Properties? Did you remove the battery AND AC adapter when the RAM was added?

If it's sensitive to motion, I'd say that the hard drive is in less than great condition and should be replaced.

Well my Toshiba Sattlite a105 its really slow

I think it came with a 512M on a 533 mhz bus speed (ddr2) and it supports up to 2G DDr2 on 533 ..Pay attention on the bus speed if you want to upgrade...and not insert anything else but 533 mhz cause you may experience problems with it ...I suggest not to use teh maximum either ..but if you have already a 512 M in one slot ...just buy and use another 1H module in the other slot ..and will be working great ..even on windows & ..which require at least 1G of ram ..
Good luck ! ..and please rate my answer ...

this computer is shipped with windows xp 32 bit, can be upgraded to vista. As for 32 or 64 bit?, the only difference you will see between them is if you have more than 3 gig of ram installed a 64 bit O/S will see and use all the ram, where a 32 bit O/S is limitted to 3gig of memory it can address.
Personally, I believe you will have a lot easier time finding the 32bit drivers for your laptop and printer. 64bit drivers for older hardware are sometimes very difficult to find. GO with 32bit on this laptop.

Vista x32 want to upgrade vista x64

microsoft provides upgrade discs from it's site (you should payteh freight).
If u are using Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic, there is no way to upgrading.

else, the other versions allows u to upgrade.
remember: the only difference between 32 and 64 bit is the RAM memory usage (32 bit will not use more than 3,2GB RAM), and there are a lot of programs that won't run properly in 64 bit version .

My windows not shwoing whole RAM size

What you are seeing is correct. You have 4GB of physical RAM installed in the computer and it is being recognized properly by the BIOS. A 32-bit operating system can only address approximately 3.5GB of RAM. Vista may be rounding the number down to 3GB or if you are using on-board video, some of the RAM is being allocated for use by the video circuitry and is not reported as system memory. To see all of the installed RAM in your operaing system, you need to upgrade to a 64-bit version of Vista.

Sony Vaio computer not recognizing added RAM

First, do you have a 32-bit or 64-bit operating system. Unless you have the latter, you will only see 3GB maximum.
Second, did you look at the Sony specs (you didn't say what model you have)? Chances are your Sony maxes out at 2GB.

Upgrading Ram/Bios

You do have to have a 64 bit OS so that windows will recognise 4 Gig of Ram.

I have Vista Ultimate 64 Bit and 4 gig of ram in my laptop. I upgraded the OS Before I upgraded the Ram, this might be something that Microsoft Address in the near future. so if you dont want the expense of buying Vista X64 then hold off for a little bit. Although 64 Bit doesn make more sense when you are getting to the limits of 32 bit
