Have you tried to do a system restore back before you had the virus? This will reset your computer back before the problems. Go to the start button > programs > accessories > system tools > system restore. Pick a day way before you got the virus, like a week or two. Pick the day and system restore will reboot and turn back the clock to that day.

If you would rather not do that or system restore has been turned off. Look for the network adapters in the device manager. If they are in there, make sure the wireless switch is turned on, that enables the wireless. To reset the settings, highlight the wireless adapter and uninstall it, but keep the drivers. Now, reboot the laptop and windows will re-install the device and reload the drivers. If windows asks to check windows update for a fresh driver, let it, just make sure to connect to the router with an ethernet cable to make sure you have a good connection.

You need to check on your device manager if the device is listed there and if it has a bang on it or a yellow exclamation sign. If it does and you need to reinstall the drivers for your wireless card. You can go to support.dell.com and get the latest drivers for your computer

Better to have an ANTISPYWARE software to double check if there's something in depth of your computer. My suggestion is to download either of the two: SUPERANTISPYWARE that can be downloaded on this site >> www.superantispyware.com for free and AROVAX that can be downloaded on this site >> www.arovax.com. It helps to remove some of the spyware/worms/trojans on your computer aside of the viruses.

Another way of having antivirus software is the NORTON. It's helps you to protect your computer 99.5%. Or you can try to have also AVIRA antivirus.

Thanks.

How to remove pen drive when it says cant be removed.

Sometimes u cannot safely remove ur hardware due to virus or a process blocking the pendrive removal.

To remove ur hrdware in that case

Simply start taskmanager
click on process tab and then end the process explorer.exe
now click on applications tab
click new task
enter explorer.exe in the text box then click ok.
Thats it
Now u can remove ur hardware or delete ny viruses in the pen drive manually
To delete virus remember to open drive by using explore.
This also makes the pendrive to format which cant be formatted previously.

Hidden Folder virus in PC not in USB

I have faced same problem. Shortcuts everywhere.

Not once, many times.

I tried many solutions.

Shortcut Virus Remover is the best solution I found.

A 100% free simple application.

You can download it from this link - Shortcut Virus Remover

Place it in your pen drive and double click to run.
Press Enter to confirm its process.
That is all.

Shortcuts will remove and your data will be back in a second.

The folders on my western digital passport...turned into shortcuts

I have seen this be caused by a virus before. The way I had to remove this issue was by booting the drive on a Mac and then deleting the desktop.ini files from the root drive.
If you show hidden files, you may see the virus sitting there on the root drive.
The one I encountered had an icon that appeared as a Skull with Cross Bones. Delete this file.
Try to move your files to another drive afterwards, because you will have to delete the partition, recreate a partition, and format this drive to finalize the removal of the virus.
If you don't have anything on here that is absolutely necessary to you, delete/recreate the partition and format the drive.
This link can walk you through the delete/create/format process.

Create a drive and format

Use the create process to delete the partition too.

Just a minor problem but it bugs me.. There is this file called karlewsa.exe. I don't know what it is or what it can do. What I know is that it is detected as a virus by prevx. I tried manually deleting it...

Your problem cannot be classified as 'minor': you have probably been infected by a nasty virus.
In order to do this 'manual' delete of karlewsa.exe or nay program that is 'used by another process', you need to:

  • start 'Task manager' (access via keys ctl-alt-del)
  • go to the 'Processes' tab
  • locate the required running process like karlewsa.exe and anything that is related and click on 'End process'
  • locate the directory that has this program and delete the whole directory (you might be required to kill/end additional processes from that directory...)
  • run your up to date Antivirus/Antispyware programs
  • recheck that karlewsa has not regenerated itself again!
Hope the information is helpful and good luck!

ps. The best way to kill any virus is to boot up from a CD containing an up to date antivirus/antispyware utility that has been created on a clean PC.
