    Is that difficult to replace?
Is a 10 yr old microwave worth fixing?

  • Paul Bell Oct 09, 2009

Thanks for being such a great resource!!
    Model is JEM31 SA002
Serial# RZ900452B Mfr Aug 2000 I recall hearing in the past that life of a microwave is about 10 yrs.
(could be an old wives tale for all I know)
It has been used regularly but not heavily if that matters. I have most all tools but never got into one of these. I really appreciate your expertise.

This code will occur if a shorted key panel is detected continuously over 60 seconds. Replace key panel (also called touch pad).

Due to the fact that the unit is quite old, i would need to confirm that the parts are available. As far as the repair, its not easy, but if you are tech savvy, and have the correct set of tools, it can be done. If you could rely the entire model number, i will do a parts search for you.

My kitchenaide convection oven is displaying the E1 F4 error.

KitchenAid ovens are popular for their classic design and simple user interface. When a problem occurs in the function of a KitchenAid oven, an error code will display on the clock as soon as the malfunction registers in the oven's memory. Each code corresponds to a particular type of malfunction. Most can be corrected by disconnecting the power supply for one minute and then restarting. If the code persists, either replace the indicated part or contact a service center. F0/F1
  • The F0 and F1 codes refer to electrical issues. If the code appears as only two digits, the problem is a transistor failure, so you must replace the electronic range control (ERC). If the code displays four digits, it will read F0-E0, which indicates a failure switching from analog to digital, or F1-E1, which refers to a safety flip-flop. Both problems require the replacement of the ERC.
  • F2/F3/F4
  • The F2, F3 and F4 codes refer to problems with the oven temperature sensor or the keypad. If you see the two-digit F2 code, it means your keypad has shorted and the ERC must be replaced. The four-digit F2-E0 code means that the oven temperature is too high. Test the door lock and the relay operation, and correct as necessary. A two-digit F3 code means an open temperature sensor or thermal fuse, so those parts must be replaced. A four-digit F3-E0, F3-E1, F3-E2 or F3-E3 code or a two-digit F4 code means that either the oven is registering as too hot or the temperature sensor has shorted. Either way, the oven temperature sensor must be replaced.

    F3 error code ge microwave

No, unfortunately the membrane keypad is not available as a separate part on this model.

You would have to order the control panel frame, which comes with a new keypad already installed.

The part number is WB07X10883 and you can get it for $86.82 here.

In this case, you simply move your circuit board into the new frame. That is a simple do-it-yourself job.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Then you unplug the keypad (as per the photo below) and move the circuit board into your frame.

Some connectors on the relays may have a lock:

GE Sensor Microwave model JES1456wf001 error code F3....how do we fix . Microwave comes on when plugged in and then reads to set clock and then it rings several times and we get an F3 code

F3 is a shorted key pad. To prove this, unplug the ribbon cable of the key pad from the control board and this symptom should go away when you plug the AC cord back into the wall. BE CAREFUL!!!
