Compressor shuts off after short period

My duo therm roof a/c compressor delays coming on and then shuts off after about 10 minutes and will not come back on for 20 minutes or longer. The blower works fine and blows cold air while the compressor is running but starts blowing warm air when the compressor shuts off.

I pulled the top off and vacuumed the cores out, they had a good bit of dust collected on them, and I did not see any heater switch on top of the compressor.I ran it afterward and upon start-up the blower came on with no compressor action for about 7 or 8 minutes then the compressor cuts on and cools good for about 10 to 15 minutes then the compressor cuts off and will not come on again for about 20 minutes maybe if your lucky. It is a old unit came on a 92 ford rv.model no.620015307.Is it possibly a thermostat? Thanks for your help.Phil.

    what is the model number?

It sounds like the compressor is going out on internal overload or it might have small heater switch on the top of it.Check the capacitor for the compressor and check to see if it has a small round heater switch on the top of the compressor

SOURCE: duo therm roof top a/c

Sounds like 1 of 3. Blower motor capacitor, relay or thermostat. Try to run fan only if that is an option and see.

SOURCE: compressor tries to start but want

hi,
you have to run a contractor grade extension cord(10-12 gauge) from your rv to run those or theyll do that, the lower the gauge the better, best bet is to plug the rv directly into the outlet, if you cant, get the shortest and thickest extension cord you can.

It sounds like the compressor is locked up. You can try a start boost or hard start kit but once this starts the compressor is on it's way out.

The best guess is that you have a bad thermostat. When the compressor shuts off it has to stay off for a long enough period of time for the low pressure high pressure to equalize. If it turns the compressor off and back on immediately it can't start against the heavy load created by these unequal pressures. If it will start every time after sitting for 10 minutes the thermostat is making it short cycle.

Duo therm 15000 heat pump on ac starts blowing cold short while later warm.

Hi,
A little more info would help. When you say blows cold and then warm after a while, can you still here the compressor running? There are a couple of things that could cause this: 1. Check how much current the compressor is drawing. You will need an ammeter for this but it's necessary. From inside, if you have a penguin (low profile, 9" tall) hook the ammeter to the black wire in the harness. If you have the BriskAir then hook it to the blue wire. Start the A/C and watch the meter. The exact reading is temperature dependent but should be about 12 amps or so, this includes the motor. There is a rating plate visible from the air return that gives the exact amp draw for each unit. This is at 95 degrees F on the roof. For every 10 degrees over, add one amp, for every 10 degrees below, subtract one amp. If the reading is more than what it should be, most likely the coils (both evaporator and condenser) need to be cleaned. If there is too high an amp draw for a certain period, the compressor overload will shut it off but the fan will continue to run. Too low would be low freon most of the time.
2. There could be an issue with the reversing valve.
Give me a model number and I can give you more information.

I have a Duo-Therm roof top. The compressor wont shut off. When the stat is satisfied the fan stops but not the compressor. I pulled the metal control box but didnt see a real set of contacts. Where are...

Trace the wires from the compressor back to where they come from. They should be coming from a contactor or from the circuit board. It's possible the relay is built into the circuit board (it will look like a little black box on the board. Let me know what you find.

Penguin Duo therm AC bogs

Try replacing the wall thermostat with an electronic unit. It sounds like it is short cycling. If there is not at least 5 min delay before trying to restart the compressor this is what happens. Most electronic thermostats have a delay feature built in to solve this problem.
