It looks like the Alternator is not charging the battery. Or the battery is dead.

05 cobalt. replaced starter and battery. starter solenoid spins but does not engage starter. head lights dim also when trying to start.

If the lights dim when the engine is trying to start, then the battery is not fully charged.

If the battery is not fully charged there is not enough speed to make the bendix on the starter slide out under centrifugal pressure and engage the ring on the flywheel.

Put the battery on a proper battery charger overnight. Also make sure the battery terminals as clean and tight, plus the negative strap to the body and the positive lead wherever it goes to.

Incidentally, the starter solenoid is not what you think it is as it doesn't 'spin'. It is an electrical relay used to take the massive amps needed to turn the motor from the battery to the starter without burning out the wiring to the ignition switch and the ignition switch itself. You mean the 'starter spins'.

1997 sable ,new starter turns but does engage

Could be that there were 4 cylinder engines and 6 cylinder engines and you may have the wrong starter. There could be several bendix drives that have thinner or broader gears or that need to go farther into the end bushing. If the end bushing is too long, the bendix will not be able to travel far enough to engage the flywheel.

Hyundai won't turn over

So the starter is turning the engine over (you can see the serpentine belt moving when you try to start)?

Hi my 2006 Jeep Liberty won't start or turn over all keep hearing is this click sound when I turn the ignition , Plus I just replaced the battery .

Probably a starter. It sounds like the starter solenoid is working, but the starter motor is not energizing.

You could try this simple trick, but Im about 85% sure you have a bad starter.

Have a buddy help you push the vehicle in neutral for a short distance. When you get it moving at a walking pace, put the transmission in Drive, and let the vehicle come to a stop. You may hear a little clicking, but thats OK, it wont hurt anything. Put the transmission back in Park and try to start the engine again. Sometimes the starter gear gets stuck on the flywheel and it wont engage when you try to start the engine. This trick may move the flywheel a little so the starter can engage.

Your battery is to low on power it needs a good charge, or replace it is the best option for a brand new one!

Battery is charged but starter wirs and rpm meter moves up but engine does not turn over.

Most starters have a bendix that engages the starter to the flywheel to turn the motor. If the bendix part of the starter is working properly the starter freewheels without turning the engine.

My car is not ingaging to turn over

If it is just clicking, then the battery is too weak. Charge the battery or jumpstart.

If the battery is full charged and when you turn the key, the starter is just clicking again, possibly bad starter or bad battery cable ground. Check your grounds from the battery.

If it is a new starter and it is clicking like it won't engage, then it is not shimmed properly.

If you figure out what is wrong and need further help, please reply to this post with your questions.

Thanks! Oh, please post your engine size, year of car or truck and model. This helps A LOT!!!

96 explorer turns over but starter is not engaging

I always check remans before they are installed; the Bendix may not be advancing the starter gear or you may have teeth missing from the flywheel. I'd pull the starter and check the condition of the flyhweel.
