Question about HP PhotoSmart C4480 All-in-One Printer InkJet
I installed a new color cartridge to print photos mid project - the photos from the new cartridge are printing poorly; there are visible vertical lines in the pictures and the color quality is poor. It is the same photo paper, I did align the new cartridge, I reinstalled the cartridge several times and I shook it. Any other ideas?
Shaking these cartridges does nothing except give you a little exercise. If this is a brand new HP cartridge you are having problems with I would return it to the store you purchased it from. HP brand cartridges should not give you these problems right out of the box. The print defects you are seeing are due to a dried up or clogged print head. If you like you can try hydrating the print head on a water soaked paper towel until the ink starts flowing, but there's a risk you will cross contaminate the colors.

Turn on the unit, then open the print-carriage access door by lifting
the handle until the door locks into place.
The print carriage moves to the center of the unit.
You may want to use a photo print cartridge for
superior print quality when printing photos. With the
color and photo print cartridges installed, you have
a six-ink system. See how to print the best quality
