Go to HP support site and see if they have released a BIOS update for your laptop that will accept a higher amount of ram. There have been some instances of BIOS updates from manufacturers to correct this issue. Just realize that if you are successful, A 32 bit windows operating system will only recognize 3 gb of that ram. To see the full 4 gb, you havr to step up to a 64 bit operating system.
