May i suggest you get netework magic to help you with your neetwork management? Goopdle it and read the deal while there.

Your computers are truing to connect via wire or wireless? D-link is a good machine and XP and Vistra are really pretty easy to set up. Get Network Magic to help you with this.

I have a laptop running vista ultimate 32 bit version and i am having problems connecting to the internet. It says I am connected but will browse the internet. Are the troubleshooting steps the same as...

The steps are the same though the menus and screens you go through to do them are a bit different from XP. Pretty much all the software steps you can do are covered by the troubleshooter in vista and 7 though, so if you have ran that without a solution, then the likelyhood that it's a setting in windows causing the issue is fairly low.

First I would confirm that your connection is actually working. If you are attempting to connect the laptop with wireless it is not uncommon for routers to stop responding correctly to wireless clients, or even for the wireless portion of a router to die while wired connections still work perfectly. Try plugging the laptop in with a wire and see if you still have the same problem. If wired worked but wireless did not, then unplug your router, wait about 30 seconds and plug it back in. Retry the wireless and if it still does not work then a replacement router will be required to use wireless, though you could get a second cable and use it wired until you do replace it.

How can I get the internet working after installing Windows XP? I have the computer plugged into a router, but still no internet.

If you have installed the ethernet card driver you just need to unplug both power cords on your modem and your router. Then plug in back your modem first and wait 1 minute. After 1 min. put the power back on your router. Wait 1 minute to make sure it talks with your modem. Try accessing internet after that and if it doesn't work, you can try restarting your computer.

If nothing works after doing this. Maybe you have a bad or missing driver.

Hope it helps!

What kind of windows you wanted to install? Compaq d5 are pentium 4 computers with maverage of 1gb of ram I believe. I would say install XP on it. Vista will do but will be slow. The link will be your guide in installing XP.

I would try using the hex value generated from your password by your WEP enabled router instead of the password itself. Windows has always been a little funny with WEP and I've always had better luck using the hex value my router generates.

Make sure that the wireless radio/switch is enabled on your laptop if its has built in wireless and normally if your wireless router has security enabled you need to create a profile or initiate the connection. For Windows Vista go to Control Panel and Look for Network and Internet then go to Network and Sharing Center, on the upper left hand side of the window look for a task that says Manage Wireless Connection then click Add then choose "Add a network that is in range of this computer" and check if it will display na name(SSID) of your wireless router, if it does just highlight the name and click connect(if the router has encryption you may need to verify or get hold of the wireless security(WEP or WPA) key that is configured on your router. It will be most helpful if you could provide some imformation about you laptop like the windows version(XP or Vista) and the brand name of your wieless router.

Vista os loads software but wont reconize camera

There might be compatibility issue. Try running the compatibility wizard in vista. You can start the wizard by typing compatibility wizard in windows Help and Support; it will display a link. Select your powershot software in the list of programs and choose XP in the compatibility mode.
