Superscan plasma tv about 3 years old. Has Direct TV cable box hooked up and had X-Box hooked up(no longer). We shut off all connections but line stays. Initially, it would appear for about 30 minutes then go away, but not anymore.

- Is there a less expensive solution to repair this 2" black vertical line which appears?
Oct 30, 2009
- Is this worth repairing or is it best to buy another TV??

- The 2" vertical line is always there. Should I just replace the TV?? Or is it worth fixing?

- Will take in for service. Thanks for the advice.
Plasma screens have a video board that controls the bottom half of the
panel, and another that controls the top half. When these chips, or the chips that integrate them, fail, the result is a line in the middle of the screen. This is definitely a service
issue, which would be taken care of under extended warranty if you are lucky
enough to have one. If your warranty is long gone, your options would
be to pay for service at an authorized repair shop, or if you are
extremely handy, obtain a service manual and see if it is possible to
acquire the parts you would need for replacement.
Well these are not bulky as there is no Cathode Ray Tube, i.e.CRT whereas in Plasma/HDTV there is a grid of small squares, each screen being a mini--TV's but display only a part of the whole image, acting like a grid where each displaying that part, which if combined forms the actual image. Similarly to your screen( miniaturized ) where each displays only a small part.
There are two boards at the bottom of the set connected to the panel.
Follow the black line to the boards(it will be in-line with one or the
other end) either that board is bad or the panel itself is bad . The boards
do not meet exactly in the middle.
If you have no prior experienc, then better to ask for a technician to do this workl Regards sodeep
hi, this is a very common problem that usually happens between 3 and 5 years.
The problem is going to be with the video board inside the telly you can buy these and fit them yourself but it will require some soldering so its best left to someone who knows what they are doing.
When you brought the telly you should have been told how many watching hours the telly should last for ie 300,000 hours or so, but the problem you have is that you could replace the video board and then have no problem or you might find that due to the age of the telly that you could replace the video board then a couple of months down the line the screen could need replacing. So you need to work out what best and is it financially worth it.
Its best you let a pro look at it and give you some idea on how long the telly is going to last after getting it repaired.
But first if you remove the xbox and cable from the telly ie unplug the scart lead if you then watch the telly through the normal channels ie 1 to 5 on the actual telly do you then still have the same problem if you do then the video card will need replacing.
Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok
I have reviewed your problem and have the fallowing for you to aces. It appears that there's a problem with the power supply board. If the TV is out of warranty, the repair would cost for about $250. Usually, a burnt capacitor or bad IC is the cause of the problem.
One good power serge or lightning strike within a 1/8 mile of a plasma set, will bring on these kind of problems.
Once a capacitor takes a serge it either blows or begins to leak.
After which, the component fails and you can see the outcome.
