Hi, my emachine T6216 will boot up to the Bios then freeze

Hi, my emachine T6216 will boot up to the Bios screen and that's where it freezes. I thought it was the Hard Drive. Bought a new Seagate HD and installed it. Still doing same thing.

I had a trojan a few weeks ago and did a system restore. Added an external HD, also. Was running fine.

I hope I'm doing this right to answer you..

I'm sure it's not overheating. I checked all of the fans and everything else is running properly.

Also, not sure if this is important. The machine is, unfortunately, not under warranty still.

Also, I'm a neophyte with computers and this is my first time having one open and I've been using diagrams to learn to change the HD out, so bear with me as I figure out how to do the RAM, please.

Still doing the same thing. Additionally, I have tried to run the restore cd again and it won't run.

  • mdrenon Oct 08, 2009

That's what it won't let me do. It stays frozen on this screen. I can't get anywhere but here. I can push F8, F10, Esc, ctr+alt+del, anything and nothing happens. So now I'm thinking my other hard drive isn't bad.

YyyeeeeeeeeeeHHHHHhhhaaaaaaaaaaawwww How in the heck? :)

It's a good think I have 3 keyboards, but my desk is a mess, lol. OMG it's up. Ok, This option will install a recovery partiotion first, then restore the user partition. Yes?

I'm so excited I can't type right, lol. Hope you can read that. Shall I do what it's asking?

  • mdrenon Oct 08, 2009

Ok, about the time I think this is good, it's not.

It won't run the R for the disc and if you touch the mouse it shuts down. I've tried to change the mouse. :(

  • mdrenon Oct 08, 2009

Ok, it's something to do with the keyboard and mouse

  • mdrenon Oct 08, 2009

It won't run any keyboard or mouse. It shuts down if you touch a mouse and even with a new keyboard the keyboard quits working. When you plug the keyboard in you can see the lights come on but the keyboard won't work.

The PC is going to a Bios screen but you can't boot because no power to the keyboard.

All right. I'll have to go and buy a set tomorrow. I live in a rural community and only have a Wal-Mart.

I had also forgot to add that I had purchased a 7-port USB hub because I have quite a few items that need usb's. It was only a few days after I started using it that this failure happened. I very stupidly purchased a cheaply made Bejing model from eBay (because of the price). Is it possible it had something to do with this?

It'll be after noon before I'll have the mouse and keyboard. You have no idea how much I appreciate the help. I got incredibly excited just seeing it go past the Big E :) It's been such a great machine and I run a small business and am dependent on it as this laptop is ancient.

I'll be back on here and let you know how things are faring after I'm home. Thank you so much. You're more than appreciated.

Well, I think it's dead. I hooked the usb mouse and keyboard up and restarted it, it ran the recovery disc and was doing just fine. Then the PC just quit; the fans were running but nothing else. The on switch was blinking on and off but you couldn't turn the PC off with it, and it just kept blinking on and off. I had to unplug it to make it stop. When I plugged it back in the on switch stayed a steady blue but wouldn't turn on, off and the PC didn't make any noise and the monitor showed nothing.

Hi there,

Try first to remove the memory module RAM, clean the contacts and resit it again on the slot.. Also make sure that your CPU was not overheating..

Emachine T6216 onboard video is shot (nothing on known good monitor) Have installed new PCI-Ex16 graphics care. Need to disable onboard video. Is there a jumper on motherboard?

Have you tried entering BIOS? I beliveve that you have to press and hold F1 during boot to enter BIOS. Once in there you should be able to disable onboard video card.

When I turn it on, only the fans run. I cannot hear the hard drive run and the hard drive light on the bezel is solid yellow

look on bios to see if detects the hard drive ...if does not boot to windows...the hard disk has no reason to go on ....and the issues could be many ....check the Ram memory if do not appear anything on screen at all ...and just runs the coolers and clicks without boot at this case its the Ram memory check it ...get it out ..put it back ...and remove the bios battery to force it see them again .....if it is booting until the operating system should appear ...and after that nothing ...reinstall ...
Also .....if there is anything written on the screen carefully ..usually it will say whats wrong ...and advise in same replace hdd ...or files missing ...or blue screen error from memory issues..

Freezing or shutoff on boot, setup or minutes into operation

Try this:

Boot the system with your Windows XP installation disk. When the boot options window appears select R for recovery console. Once you have logged into the DOS session type: fixmbr and hit the enter or return key and select "y" for yes you want to do this. Type: fixboot and hit the return key again, hit "y" for yes.
