Re: The tape door will not close. 360x  Can you help   ...

I had the same problem with my 360X.
I took the camera apart and found two screws loose that hold the tape carrier to the rest of the chassis. The unfortunate thing is that I had to pretty much disassemble the entire camera to get to those two screws. It's working again. I'm assuming those two loose screws were the problem.

Cannot switch from card to tape mode. Tape/card switch does nothing

replacing the switch will require disassembling the camera and can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

Cassette doesn't load and move down into machine

I had the same problem. With the camera on, keep taking the battery off and putting it back on. Start to close the door and then open it. Eventually you should hear it try to move. Keep doing it and it should move down all the way.

I can't get my tape out- The door tries to open but it appears jammed...any help?

More likely the loading gears are damaged. When you open the outer door and the latch triggers the motor to release the tape compartment. When the gears are not in good condition, it will move up partially or none at all. The remedy is repairing loading gear mechanism. You will have to rely on your local camcorder repair technician for this job. -James. For further assistance by email, go to

IMPORTANT: If your camcorder model has a RESET button, first try pressing this button. If there is no RESET button, or pressing the button does not resolve the issue, continue with the troubleshooting steps below.
  1. Turn off the camcorder.
  2. Remove the battery from the camera.
  3. Remove the AC power supply from the camera.
  4. Slide the power switch on the camera to the VTR, VCR or CAMERA mode for 15 seconds.
  5. Slide the power switch back to the OFF position.
  6. Connect the AC power supply to the camera.
  7. Attempt to open the cassette compartment.

Tape door wont close

I'm having a similar problem. The camera is a Sony DCR-TRV280. When you put a tape in the tray will not go down. However when the tray is empty and you push it shut it will go down. In other words the mechanism works fine without the tape but with the tape it doesn't. I hope the explanation is clear enough. Thanks
