    My computer is a HP Pavilion but sorry I don't know where to find the serial number :-( I am a hopeless computer person! i can see 3 icons down in the right hand corner next to the time (7 when extended). Thankyou for your kind and quick response.

  • marian_heawo Oct 08, 2009

    Hi there.. I notice there are 5 icons and 2 hidden. My computer is an HP Pavilion and serial number looks like CZB5160H27 ( the letter B could be the number 8). I hope that this is the information you need.

  • marian_heawo Oct 08, 2009

    There is information like ..system Microsoft Windows XP.. version 2002. There are then .. registered to.. details etc.

  • marian_heawo Oct 08, 2009

    Intel (R) Celeron(R) CPU (2.80GHz twice) 248 MB of RAM. I hope that this is the information you need. Thankyou.

    Sorry, I didn't specify (that one is on me!). I need to know what the processor is and how much RAM is there. Should look something like this: Computer: Intel Core(TM)2 CPU (maybe some stuff) (maybe some stuff) 1.99GB of RAM Thanks and sorry about the confusion.

  • Jon May 11, 2010

    Okay. Thanks for the update. I have been unable to track down your serial number with HP (even with the b or 8 :) ). Could you do the following and report back? Right click on My Computer, and left click on properites. This should bring up a screen titled System Properites. On the right hand side you should see Computer:. Can you tell me what comes underneath this? The above assumes you are running Windows XP. If you are running Vista, please let me know and I will have to check all the steps and screens in Vista to give you instruction. Good Luck!!

  • Jon May 11, 2010

    Could you tell me what type of computer you have (model and serial number)? From this I can get the computer specs. Also, how many little icons do you have next to the clock in the lower left of your screen on the start bar?

I believe the reason it is taking your computer so long and then appears slow is the lack of RAM. While your processor is the engine that makes your computer run, the RAM is what makes the engine perform better (a gross oversimplification, but you get the point I hope). The recommended requirements for Windows XP is 128MB of RAM. Your system has double that, however, with applications that are running on startup, I believe you are maxing that out. (For an example, I am running windows XP with more than 4 times what you currently have. Running a PC with only 256MB of RAM these days can be quite painful as new versions of internet explorer and applications in general can be quite memory intensive.) The printer you have installs software for picture printing as well as a few other items that do indeed run when you start windows. I would highly recommend purchasing RAM from your local technology retailer (ie Best Buy, etc). If you bring in your tower they can get you exactly what you need. RAM is relatively inexpensive these days and I think you would have a much more enjoyable computing experience if you went from the 256MB to 1GB (1GB = 1000MB). Everything will run faster for you. I know this is not the best answer or a quick fix, but I would just about bet my next expense check that getting a RAM upgrade would solve this problem along with general slowness in applications.

Which version of IE are you using ?
Outlook Express is the official e-mail software of Windows and can be found on any computer running Windows.
However, there are times when it is missing, perhaps because a previous owner or user uninstalled it.
If you cannot locate Outlook Express in your applications, try re-downloading and installing it.
Finding Outlook Express Downloads

Since Outlook Express comes with the Windows operating system, finding a copy of the installation program could prove difficult; few download sites on the Internet carry it.
Searching for "Microsoft Outlook Express" on the Microsoft.com website will also lead to a dead end.
However, the program is available for download on Microsoft.com under another name.
Download the latest version of Internet Explorer from Microsoft.com downloads section by searching for Internet Explorer and clicking the download; it will be the first download to appear. Doing this will also install Outlook Express on your computer.
Once the setup has begun, Internet Explorer will install, and then the setup for Outlook Express will begin. At this point, the setup program will download the newest version of the software.

Can open to msn but cannot open email??

I had exactly the same problem, but I also noticed that links weren't opening in Outlook express or last.fm. I followed the following guide and this sorted the problem. Hope it helps you out too:

ake Links Work in Outlook Express, Outlook and Any Other Email Program

To make web pages open again when you click links in emails:

* Make sure neither Outlook Express nor Internet Explorer are open.
* Select Control Panel from the Start menu.
* Click Internet Options.
o If you do not see Internet Options right away, click Network and Internet Connections before.
* Go to the Programs tab.
* Make sure Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser is checked.
* Click OK.
* Close Internet Explorer.
* Re-open Internet Explorer.
* Click Yes when asked Internet Explorer asks "Internet Explorer is not currently your default browser. Would you like to make it your default browser?"
o If Internet Explorer does not ask:
o Close Internet Explorer
o Select My Computer from the Start menu.
o Choose Tools ' Folder Options... from the menu.
o Go to the File Types tab.
o Highlight (NONE) URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol.
o Click Advanced.
o Highlight open.
o Click Remove.
o Click Yes.
o Click OK.
o Now click Close.
o Start Internet Explorer.
* If you use a browser other than Internet Explorer, start it and make sure it is the new default.

The above does not work? Try this:

* Now select Run... from the Start menu.
* Type "iexplore /rereg".
* Click OK.

Or, if that fails, continue with:

* Select Run... from the Start menu.
* Type "regsvr32 urlmon.dll".
* Click OK.
* Click OK again.
* Repeat the Start ' Run... procedure with the following commands in this order, maybe checking after each for returning function:
o "regsvr32 shdocvw.dll"
o "regsvr32 mshtml.dll"
o "regsvr32 browseui.dl

I have windows mail and would like outlook express. Is there somewhere I can download it for free or do I have to buy a program?

If you have Windows Mail, you no doubt are running Windows Vista. Sorry, but Outlook Express is not supported in Vista. You are stuck with Windows Mail or a third-party mail client. FYI, I use Thunderbird and am quite satisfied. It works with Windows XP through Windows 7

Microsoft Outlook Express does not have its own setup program. Outlook Express is distributed as the mail client for Microsoft Internet Explorer. The Internet Explorer setup program includes the option to install Outlook Express. So, download IE latest version and install OE in it.
