Question about Water Heaters

1 Answer

Hi I have a Onga SMH55 water pump. It is making a sound like a noisy bearing. I have pulled the stainless empeller cover off. But am unsure how to remove the next plastic housing so that i can check and see if the empellers are damaged or dirty. How do I remove the plastic housing? Thanks

There should be four bolts that go all the way down the length of the motor. You may be able to loosen them from the other end from the pump.

Glow worm 45-60 standing boiler making banging noises when in operation

The noise you refer to is called Kettling, it is caused by the hot water in your boiler not being able to leave the boiler quick enough, if the problem developed quickly and your system is a "fully pumped " system this would generally point to your pump either has failed or is on its way out, i.e . your radiators would not heat up as the hot water is stuck in the boiler hence the banging......( if you know where the pump is you can generally feel if it is running by a small vibration ) if you have gravity hot water and pumped heating circuit then I would assume that it is noisy when just doing HW, and the banging is a problem that has gradually got worse it can indicate that the boiler is scaling up (are you in a hard water area). if this is correct there are various additives that can be put in the system to help quieten it down, I suggest you really need a heating engineer to diagnose fully.

Loud noisy boiler what's wrong with it ?

Hi. I'm not an expert but most of my boilers in the past get noisy when they get air in the system. Underneath your boiler will be an inlet tap to top up the sysem with water. Make sure you bleed all of your radiators of air till they squirt water then keeb topping up the system and bleeding till no air remains in any of the radiators. There should be a pressure dial on the front of your boiler and there is usually a red fixed needle which shows what the opperating pressure is. I would do this before anything else and see if this solves the problem. :-)

Squeeling sound and lower pressure from gas water heater

Probably the factory-installed heat trap nipples are clogged.
Open following links.

http://waterheatertimer.org/Low-hot-water-pressure.html#trap
Noisy whistling and humming and low pressure are common problem with heat trap nipples and inserts from factory.
Replace heat-trap nipples with pex-lined nipples, or remove heat trap inserts with screwdriver or needle nose... careful not to break insert so it falls into tank ... which can then get lodged in hot water line elbow or under-sink shut off.
Factory-installed heat traps are part of overall strategy so manufactures can claim more efficient water heaters, without requiring customers to any thinking.
Other strategies include foam insulation instead of fiberglass (so that wires cannot be replaced on electric units), reducing factory-set temperature from previous 130-135 to 100-120, and re-estimating downward the hot water use for average family.
So some of the strategies are useful, while others problematic or imaginary.
Call manufacturer to pay-for or provide new pex-line nipples. Warranty for fist year covers Labor and parts, and after 1st year, warranty covers parts

It may just need a new pump coupling. Fairly inexpensive. I don't think you need to replace the whole burner.

Bosch 2400 exhaust adapter doesn't fit the stainless flue pipe correctly. Stainless flue per manual spec.

depending on the unit and the exhust pipe you might have what they call the condensate catcher in wich it has to be piped diffrently,, you will need to cut the end if you read the instuctions it will tell you to cut the outer cover 1/2 inch shorter then the stainless pipe, cutting off the hubb this will make it fit,, make sure to cut it straight so it will seal properly
