My kenmore gas cooktop had water spill into two igniters. none of the igniters will work now. breakers have been checked and are not tripped. what would be the next logical step in getting the igniters repaired?

Re: igniters will not work

Did the water fall on the spark module do you hear a faint click ,igniters dont go bad if they get wet if you say theres power going to the cooktop then you might have a bad spark module.

Spill water on cook top by gas knobs. now the igniter is clicking on all the time with the knobs in the off position

Each of the knobs has a little white rotary switch on it's shaft below the cooktop. You've likely got water in one of those switches and it's making the connection in the switch to start the igniter circuit. Unplug/turn off the breaker to the unit. If it's just water and not a sauce or noodle water or something else impure, you may be able to let it dry out without too much trouble. You could try pulling off the knobs and sucking at the openings with a wet/dry vac to try to get more water out of the switches. The worry is corrosion from being wet too long. If it isn't working after drying out, you'll need a new set of switches.

Burners are sparking when none of the burners are turned on and only stop when electrical source is shut off.

Water has gotten into one of the igniter switches (below the burner knob). Disconnect power, let it dry out for several hours, and things should work again just fine.

None of the four burners will ignite when the gas is turned on. The electric igniters don't spark. The gas comes out and can be ignited with a separate butane lighter. I believe the electric power is on to...

Check that electric power closely. A boil over and attempted re-start or water (or other liquid) leaked / spilled into an igniter switch can trip your GFI outlet. Sometimes the outlet the cooktop is plugged into is fed from a GFI recepticle further " up stream " so you may have to look around to find a GFI which has tripped.

It is not dangerous, but very annoying. Most likely you need a new spark switch. Or simply unplug it for 24 hours and see if it dries out. Usually people spill stuff on them.

Viking gas cooktop vgsu161-6b sparks continuously. There is no gas leaking. I spilled water on the controls and it is only when I turn on the 3rd knob from the top that this happens.

The water that you spilled onto the cooktop has shorted out the ignition switch in the gas control knob. Don't worry though no permanent damage has been done. Leave it unplugged from the electrical outlet for a day or two until the liquid dries out. You can manually light the burners with matches or a BBQ lighter in the meantime. If you want to try and speed up the drying process you can use a hair dryer.
