Go to that gear and tighten your derailer

The chain is broken off the bike We bought a new one but need a diagram of how to weave the chain through Thanks


The chain goes from the top of the front sprocket to the top of the rear sprockets, between the rear sprocket and the top derailleur wheel and then between the upper and lower derailleur wheels. It then goes forward toward the front sprocket. The text sketch below shows the rear sprocket, chain and derailleur.I hope this helps.

I can not keep the chain on. I replaced the bar and chain. It work fine for about 2 hours. Then the chain came off and would not stay on.


If there is no damage to the chain or bar (shouldn't be any if you replaced them), then there seems to be some other possibilities:
1) The sprocket, that transfers power from the motor or engine to the chain, could be damaged so that it does not keep the chain in position
2) The bar is no longer perpendicular to the sprocket and housing for the motor/engine. If the bar is at an angle then the spinning forces would tend to slide the chain out of the slot in the bar.
3) The tension on the bar is not being maintained so that it slips out of the bar slot. You need to monitor this tension as you are working because the forces on the chain an bar tend to push the bar back into the housing, loosening the chain and making it susceptible to slippage.

Will the real wheel of a ttr 225 fit on a ttr 230?


If they are both 18 inch wheels then you should have no problem. To be sure contact your local dealer with the years of both bikes.

Chain keeps slipping off saw


Remove the bar and chain. Lay the chain out on a bench or table and examine for sideways bent/broken links, badly damaged cutting teeth, or damaged drive teeth. Inspect the bar chain-groove all the way around for any damage. Make sure the tip sprocket turns freely and is not damaged. Check the sprocket on the clutch drum for hooked teeth or other damage. Clean the small oil passages that feed oil out to the chain groove in the drive end of the bar. Start the engine and check the engine side port where the bar fits to--it should ooze out oil from the small port there. If everything checks ok, re-assemble the bar and chain leaving the cover fasteners finger tight. Adjust the chain until it pulls up to the bar, but not so tight that you can't turn turn it by hand. Tighten the bar fasteners and re-check the chain tension. Start the engine and hold the bar tip near some cardboard--it should throw off a thin line of oil after several moments of running at speed. Count the number of sprockets you have up front, then count the number you have in the rear, Multiply, 3 x 6 = 18 speeds. 3 up front, 6 in the rear, or 2 up front, 5 in the rear, 10 speed. Etc, they go as high as 21. You might only have one in the front.
To shift, you have to be peddling, get the bike going, put the chain on the middle or the biggest sprocket in the front, move the left thumb shifter to do this, do not let the chain rattle, make it a clean shift and don't let it klik or rub. Then put the chain on the biggest one in the rear , without any rubbing, chattering, slipping, etc,with the right shifter, now you are ready to take off easily, when you get going and the pedals get too easy and go faster, shift the rear to the next sprocket down, then again, then when you are coming to a stop, down shift the rear sprocket back to the biggest gear and you will be ready to take off again easily. A few tries, you will shifting like mario andretti. Hope this helps.

I have a Poulan 18" chainsaw. Dispite my best efforts to tighten the chain, it keeps slipping off of the bar. I can use it for about 30 seconds, then the chain slips off.


Make sure the chain brake is off (pull it toward you), then remove the bar mounting nut(s)/bolt(s) and the remove the side cover, bar, and chain. Clean the oil passages in the rear of the bar including two small passages that run from the larger holes out to the chain groove on each side. Clean the entire chain groove and make sure the end sprocket turns freely and is well oiled. Clean the engine face where the bar fits, then start the engine. Oil should ooze out of a small port in the engine case. If ok, then lay out the chain so that it can be inspected for bent links, dry/sticking joints, or missing/badly worn drive teeth. Inspect the sprocket on the clutch outer drum component for wear or damaged teeth. Make sure the pitch of the chain teeth match those of the drive sprocket (is this a new chain?). Check the hub bearing of the clutch drum for obvious wear. If all looks good, fit the chain around the clutch sprocket, then slip the bar into the the engine mounting space and work the chain over the entire bar. When setting the outer cover, make sure the adjuster tang fits into the related bar hole, then attach the clamp nut(s)/bolt(s), run up finger tight. Use the adjuster to set the chain tension--it should just pull the lower part of the chain up to the bar plus a little more. Check that you can move the chain by hand without any binding, then tighten the clamp bolts/nuts firmly. Recheck that the chain is properly tensioned. If not, re-loosen the clamp fasteners and re-tension the chain. When the clamp fasteners are tight, the tension must be rechecked. Hope this long-winded response helps!

You have to look if when you act on the shifting level it get hard to move or it is free, if free, probably the cable is broken.
Also check if the cable is not too loose, try to follow the cable track and move the level and see if the cable move with that, in that way probably can find where the cable is stuck or broken/loose.

If the cable is rusty or otherwise binding it won't let the derailleur fall toward the smaller sprockets when the control is moved. Likewise, it may not even let you move the control in the direction that pulls the cable (bigger rings).

Chain Slipping


Your chain would have to be incredibly loose to slip the sprocket. Enough that it would come off the bar before jumping the teeth on the rear sprocket. Highly unlikely.

Check the speed control. There is a speed control usually from hi to low... sounds like it's in between speeds... try adjusting it back and forth...
It should go back into one gear and work fine.
