Jslusby, If you move this Samsung740N to a KNOWN GOOD pc fully booted up to the WIN-desktop, will it do the same thing even though you keep moving the mouse every minute or so? Can you prove that your pc is OK by swapping in a KNOWN GOOD monitor? Have you done the Flashlight test that every LCD monitor owner should know how to do when faced with the dreaded "BLACK SCREEN" symptom? Have you viewed any of the longer (8-12min.) video clips on YOUTUBE of "LCD monitor disassembly" and also "LCD repair" . You may also need to visit www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm for some info and see pic's of bad caps at www.badcaps.net . After you get to KNOW your monitor and what the top 2 causes of "BLACK SCREEN" are, you then stop in at your local computer store and ask them to demonstrate the LCD flashlight test on a monitor. If the Tech says "what's that" with a quizzical look on his or her face, then get out of there really fast and try someone else. Well, anyway, after you get some information and you still don't know what to do with your monitor, get back here and make a "comment" to your original posting, and I will offer up some options that you might want to look into doing with your monitor. Bye for now. I'm louie12fix on fixya or lmistyrel @ aol.com

Hello
I am a technician-informatic. I have repaired about 80 Lcd Samsung monitors with theese problems. I offer the repair manual.
Manual has been done with the experience of the repairing Samsung Lcd monitors. Manual was made by me and shows how to open monitor, how
to solve dark screen problem, how to check and replace capacitors, how to solve the problem non-optimal mode (without reprogramming MCU or
changing the main board) photo are included. 100% functional. The repair process is very simple 30-40min. (does not need a lot of
experience in electronics and expensive instruments) and is not expensive. With this manual you can solve problems by yourself and save
money.

"Not Optimum Mode 1280x1024 60Hz"
- The monitor turns on but turns off by itself, the LED blinks green.
- If you detach from the PC points to "control cable" the picture runs continuously in the vertical direction or presents while line , and
as soon as it is reconnected, the monitor goes off.
- The monitor does not turns on and dont dispaly anything, the LED blinks green-lit, if you detach from pc points to "control cable".
- The monitor turns on, works well some time, but after a window apiers "Not optimum mode. Mode recommended 1280X1024 60Hz"
- The monitor turns on, works well only with low resolution 800x600, when try to change a window that reads "Not optimum mode. Mode
recommended 1280X1024 60Hz"

the manual you can find on ebay (my ebay name is asnerejas123):

You need to save your settings after adjustment. It will revert back to standard setting if you don't save.

Hp2338h monitor goes to sleep all the time. When turned on it displays for a couple of seconds, then message flashes that its going to sleep. Its a not graphics driver board or power saver setting,...

I've seen on a few Windows 7 machines has been the display turning off after only 15 minutes, even though I set the Turn off the Display option to Never. Weird!
You're probably reading this because you've tried changing the power plan settings to Never for everything and your monitor still turns off! This can be very frustrating and usually occurs with new installs of Windows 7, though I've seen it happen on older installs too.
In this article, I'll go through the different ways you can fix this problem. Note that if your computer is on, but the screen is showing No Signal or No Input, you should read my post on fixing blank or black screens. Now let's go through the possible solutions.
Power Options - Control Panel First, we need to make sure everything is set correctly in Power Options. Click on Start and type in power options or go to Control Panel (icon view) and then open Power Options from there.
Click on Start, then Control Panel and then Hardware and Sound, and then click on Power Options.

Click on the Change plan settings link that is next to the plan that is currently selected. In my case, the High Performance plan is selected, so I'll click on the link next to it.

First, make sure that Put the computer to sleep is set to Never. Next, change the Turn off the display setting to whatever value you want it 10,15 min etc.. You don't have to set it to Never if you don't want to. After this, click on the Change advanced power settings link.

Expand Hard disk and then expand Turn off hard disk after. Reduce the value till it gets to Never. Click OK and then click Save Changes on the Edit Plan Settings page.
Screen Saver - Control Panel The second setting you want to check is the screen saver. Go to Control Panel, click on Personalization, and then click on Screen Saver at the bottom right.

Make sure the setting is set to None. Sometimes if the screen saver is set to Blank and the wait time is 15 minutes, it'll look like your screen has turned off.

BIOS, Graphics Card, Monitor The two methods above are the most common reason why your display will turn off after a set amount of time, however, there can be other possible causes.
BIOS - On some computers, the BIOS can have power saving settings that determine how the computer sleeps. These are called sleep modes (S1, S2, S3, S4, and S5). On some computers, you'll see an option called Deep Sleep Control. You may need to disable this in order for the computer to wake up faster.
Graphics Card - If you have a high-end graphics card installed, make sure you have the latest driver and management software installed. If you go through the settings, you may find an option that puts your graphics card into lower power mode or something similar.

Monitor - Lastly, some monitors have power saving features themselves. Usually, the monitor is supposed to go into power saving mode if it doesn't detect any input (HDMI, VGA, DVI, etc), but sometimes it happens unexpectedly.

You'll have to press the buttons on the monitor to get access to the monitor settings. Those are about all the reasons I could think of for your display turning off when it shouldn't. If you have any other questions please post them here ,Best

Monitor goes to sleep after 30 minutes vl1919

Welcome to FixYa! The default power saving feature is turning the monitor off. To change the settings go to the Desktop>Right click on it>Properties>Settings and you will see power saving settings where you can choose "Never turn off" or a longer time interval. These settings can also be found in your Control Panel for all of the Power Saving features for the computer, monitor and hard drive. Steve

The computer may be programmed to do a monitor shut off after lets say 20 minutes. This is a power saving feature of the operating system. Open Power Options under Control Panel.. select the drop down combo box that says "Turn off monitor" : set it to NEVER.

Monitor turning off

If I understand you problem correctly, your monitor is turning off when it remains idle? Does it come back on when you use the keyboard or move the mouse? If so, then this could just be caused by the computer's power-save settings. This can be adjusted by right clicking on the the desktop and selecting propeties. Go to the screensaver tab and click on the power button. From here, you can either set the "Turn Off Monitor Time" to never, or to a greater period of time.
