We have a Philips VCR. The model is VR730/55. When we play a tape it plays perfectly, but only for 8 seconds, then stops. This happens no matter the tape or where in the tape. I figure one of the kids was inadvertantly pushing buttons on the remote, but not sure. In the bottom right hand corner of the screen I get "0:00:08 M" after this happens.
Does the tape hang out when you eject the cassette?
8 seconds is about the time that the VCR brain allows the mechanism to
run when there is a problem before shuting down. Just guessing
from the model number, but I'd say the unit needs a belt job.
