Question about Dell E173FP 17" LCD Monitor
Rhettpayne, When you say: "can't get screen to stay open" do you really mean to say that the SCREEN WENT TOTALLY BLACK!! If such is the case then you may have a common problem that E173FP and E173FEP units have. I think that you really need to visit YOUTUBE and search for and view the longer 8-10min. video clips of "LCD monitor disassembly" and also "LCD repair" !! I think your monitor suffers from THERMALLY STRESSED printed circuit board solder joints and /or SWOLLEN power supply filter CAPACITORS. In the case of this model DELL units it could be either one or both types of failures inside your monitor. Also web search www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm for info. and www.badcaps.net Some of these monitors can be fixed for less than $10 in parts. Get back here on fixya with a NEW comment added to your original post and tell us if you have done the LCD flashlight test and your results of test. I'm louie12fix on fixya or lmistyrel @ aol.com hope this helps you out. Please rate this response on fixya.
