Your problem sounds like drum rollers have flat spots on them or in need of lubrication.
Or may be an idler bracket that need to be lubricated or replaced.

If you have a front loading machine, Unplug the dryer, remove the front of the dryer. This will expose the drum and belt, remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers, and the idler arm bracket with pulley.
Check your drum rollers for flat spots, if they have flat spots on them replace them. If they don't then they probably only need lubrication. Lubricate the shaft of the roller with a good grade of machine oil such as 3 in One oil.
Then check your idler arm bracket to look for wear or need of lubrication, if it is worn then it may need to be replaced.
Reassemble the dryer, plug back in. This should solve you noise problem.
Good Luck,
I hope this helps

My maytag dryer, model no.DE303 makes a loude clank-a-d-clank noise as the barrel rotates. Sometimes the sound will change and smooth out, only to get lound again. How do I fix this? It still turns and drys...

This is likely caused by a worn-out drum roller. There are two of these which support the back of the drum and allow it to turn smoothly. Replacing these involves taking the front panels off and removing the drum.

When I first start my dryer, it squeaks real loud for about ten minutes, then stops. It drys the clothes without any problems.

drum rollers/glides may be the idler arm, if is located next to the motor:

Our dryer runs and drys clothes but makes a VERY loud noise doing it - it almost sounds metallic

The reason to this problem is due to the rollers.
Remove the front panel and the drum to find the
rollers. If your roller is bad you may need to
replace it.
