Sounds like it is stripped. Hope it is the cap and not the part the filter is in. If you are very careful you may get the top off by taking 2 items you can pry with. Either screwdrivers or something similar. Have another person help if there is room. Place one of the pry items under the edge of the cap and put a little upward pressure on it. Have another person do the same thing on the opposite side. Now, carefully start to work the top off. Allow yourself time and patience. It will probably turn with difficulty but keep going. I assume it is plastic and maybe when you take the top off you will cut some new threads. They may allow you to use the same top or not, good luck...Lee

Hayward d.e.pool filter lid stuck

Open all air & drain valves, if multi-port valve - place in "Winter" mode. If push pull type valve place between positions. This will relieve any siphon & pressure in the filter tank. After clamp is removed, use a screwdriver or other "Firm" type of pry bar (2 or more would be better) and then begin to carefully pry it off or apart.
If this does not help. then there is another way to do this,
At times the filter tends to weld themselves together and it is very difficult to remove (like what you posted - stuck lid) due to excess greases, Vaseline is the main culprit, never use Vaseline on orings - it makes them swell. Use a Silicone or Teflon based Lubricant! And the o-ring is swollen in most cases for these types of problems and need to be replaced.
Anyway, with filter valves back in filter, waste, or backwash mode, Air relief valves wide open & drain cap/plug removed from filter, and the clamp is off, Quickly and consecutively - turn pump on and then off, On and then off. The water pressure will pop the lid off the tank. As you can tell, this can be dangerous as the filter tank will become pressurized and if you leave the pump on for too long (more than a couple of seconds) that lid will fly off that tank at a high rate of velocity with very possible Dangerous circumstances.

Be very careful and good luck.

Hayward pro series model s-310s is leaking water from the top even after changing o ring

Double check the o-ring to see if you missed a spot with the teflon lube. I also give the lid clamp an extra pop with a rubber mallet on both sides and snug the bolts up.

No suction from hayward large filter system.

Suction loss is due to one or more of the following;

  • Skimmer wier stuck in upright position
  • Water level too low
  • Clogged skimmer baskets
  • Obstruction in suction line(s)
  • Breech in suction line
  • Missing/ cracked/ dried out pump lid o-ring
  • Pump pot basket full of debris
  • Clogged impeller
  • Broken pump seal
These account for 99% of suction loss problems, it may require a bit of detective work to find the problem.

When my filter is in the filter position i am losing a little bit of water coming out of the waste and backwash pipe

The gasket or o-rings on your backwash valve are leaking. Bring any part of your valve to a pool store and they will know the parts you need.

Lid won't close. Seems like the o-ring diameter is too big but it is the part leslies gave me for this specific pump.

O-rings are pretty easily mixed up in stock. Leslie probably did give you the wrong size. If you still have the old one, you can easily compare them. Stretch the two of them simultaneously between two pencils or screw drivers to see if the inside diameters are the same. If one is smaller is will stretch out straight before the larger one does. To check the thickness, lay them adjacent to each other on a nice flat surface and put a straightedge across them, it will be pretty easy to see if the straightedge tips a bit. Good luck, Al K

magic lube and new o-ring. now put just a small amount on the o-ring and a little on the treads of the lid, do not over tighten ! that's the trick, the lube makes the lid over tighten,so just hand tight, take a marker and mark the lid so you know the perfect spot ever time you put it back on where to stop

I can't get the lock ring off to get the cartridge out to clean! It spins about half a turn then stops, HELP!

There should be two buttons (for lack of a better word) on the underside of the ring you push up on to unlock as you turn. Once it is off turn the pump on for a second or two to pop the lid off. When putting back together close air bleed and fill bottom of filter with water then put the top on and as the water tries to drain back to the pool the suction will help pull the top down into place.

I have a Hayward sand filter and the top is cracked and leaks. When I patch it, it just cracks somewhere else

those tanks are designed to hold alot of pressure. If it is cracked, it's already unsafe. When the pump turns on, the tanks usually flex a little bit, depending on your system. The flexing usually makes the patch come undone. It's best, and safer, to replace the filter tank.

1/2hp Hayward Pump for existing inground pool

you will be fine with the 1/2hp. The Hayward will move quite a bit of water as well. It may not move as much water as the 3/4hp but it's very close and the 1/2hp will cost a little less to operate so if anything, you may just have to run it for one additional hour per day to compensate. You will be surprised how much water a 1/2hp will move. The only issue with smaller pumps is if you have pop-up cleaner heads or a suction driven automatic cleaner such as a kreepy krauly, however, if a 3/4hp will run it, a 1/2hp will run it as well. You can install a larger motor on the super pump but it will not move more water unless you upgrade the impeller as well. Just make sure you don't use a bigger impeller than what the motor is rated for because it will strain the motor and cause it to overheat. Hope this helps.
