I am installing an off the air cable line, I checked the cable before installion and checked good. I shortened the cable by cuting it off and puting a new end on it. It shows shorted now, so I didnot put the cable end on right. so is there anywhere on the Web that shows detailed installion of an rg6 end being put on. Marshall

RG6 Cable is a 75 ohm cable and is generally used in residential settings for UHF/VHF off air antenna, cable & satellite TV signal feed lines.
The transmitter you have - like most CB, Amateur, etc. radios ant associated antennas have 50 ohm outputs and outputs. This is for a reason. Ohm's law says Maximum Power Transfer occurs when Resistance In equals Resistance Out. In order to achieve this, all the components must have matching (or close to it) resistance values. Inserting a 75 Ohm cable in a "balanced" 50 Ohm circuit can cause a mismatch or high SWR. There are ways around this - but it's too deep for here.
Your best bet would be to either try the RG6 and adjust the antenna for lowest SWR, or if unable to get it down to an acceptable value (less than 2:1 is the worst I'd accept - but 1.5:1 is significantly better), purchase a high quality 50 Ohm coaxial cable assembly instead. Good luck!
If you can get it, Quad shield RG6 would be good. You would need to make 2 runs. It's a bit thick and you would have to find RCA ends that would fit it too. This would help from interference. Another option is RG6. This wire and the ends can be found in most home improvement stores. Something else you want to do is add a preamp at the beginning to make sure the signal is strong to begin with. When you run the wire, keep it away from any power lines. If you have to come near a power line, cross it a 90 degrees.
Yuu amy have a possible Gorund problem. Call the Cable Company and find out if they can install an ISOLATOR in the input of the RG6 that feed the enitire home. The ISOLATOR Should say 5-1000Ghz this will filter any noice or Hum that you see on your set..Make sure his home has a ground. If the cable company doesn't supply the ISOLATOR go online and Goole the Part..it looks like a sliver tube. It sells for $50 and up. If his using a Dish call the Dish people. Make sure the Dish is Grounded.
check sat in cable, if cracks or breaks in line can cause sfss. also on back of receiver you want to make sure that sat in cable has a little copper wire sticking straight up and that its getting a good connection on the back of the receiver.
Hi, You need to look on the cable itself to see if it is an RG58 or RG59 or RG6 or RG9. On an RG6 cable the center conductor is larger than on an RG58, The RG6 cable is used for incoming cable, satellite ect. An outside antenna is not usually equipped with an RG6 unless it is of the new HD variety, which is meant to go to one of the newer tvs. You can remedy the problem a couple of ways, use the ant out on the tv if you have one or use an adapter that fits 2 coax cables together and use a RG 58 jumper from the adapter to the vcr. First, I did not have a projection tv problem. I had a problem with RG6U cable. I solved the problem by having a cable guy sell me some compression ends. No one from FixYa ever contacted me, so I took matters into my own hands. I'm sure I would have heard back if I subscribed to your service.
I had a similar problem. I then noticed that my antenna has a RG6 cable. This is good. My TV requires RG6 and requires TV(RF) cable that is also RG6. Insignia comes with a TV(RF) cable that is RG59! That's a cable with a smaller diameter center connector than RG6. Consequently, when that smaller RG59 was run from the converter box to the TV's larger RG6 female connector, no signal connection was completed since the center connector made no physical contact with the TV's female connector. I found a RG6 cable to replace the RG59 cable supplied with converter box and all worked then. Also, you must force the antenna's RG6 male plug into the smaller RG59 female connector, but it'll make it.
