I keep getting water at the bottom of the fridge, under salad boxes on my Hotpoint fridge

Red light on for High Freezer Temperature Warning
or freezer not cooling, but fridge is and a lot of noise from compressor.
Also, fridge drain hole blocked, water in bottom of fridge.

This is a common fault in Hotpoint Fridge Freezers and can also happen if the door has been left open or has been a power cut.

1. Turn off fridge freezer, or at least turn down the freezer temp to minimum, though not ideal.
2. Open freezer door and remove all drawers.
3. Remove the back panel on the inside of the freezer. This is held in place with 4 screws, which might be 6mm hex head or star allen head. Pull the panel out.
4. Behind where the panel was, there is a cooling element for cooling, pipes, and below this a temperature sensor. If the fridge freezer is not switched off, then fold together a few layers of tinfoil and wrap around the sensor.
5. Use a hairdryer to slowly melt the ice. Melt it around areas where it appears to be hanging on, such as the corners of the cooling element or bolts, as well as any thin sections below the main block of ice around the cooling element, which will be supporting the main block. Use a plastic ice scraper to remove ice but not near pipes or sensor.
Warning: Be careful using electrics around water & melting ice & drips.
6. Below the cooling element, there is a drip channel & drain hole. If this hole is full of ice, pour a small amound of warm water down, leave for 10 seconds and pour a bit more until clear.
In the fridge, clear the drain hole in the same way.
Warning: Do not pour a lot of water down, as this water drains onto a tray above the hot compressor at the rear of the fridge freezer to be evaporated by the heat of the compressor and the tray will only hold a small amount.
7. When all ice is removed, dry all moisture. Put the shelves back. Close door. Turn on fridge freezer. Turn up the freezer temperature to your normal setting. Turn on fast freeze if available. After 1 hour, check with a thermometer. It should be cold enough after 1 or 2 hours.

My GE bottom Freezer Fridge model pfse5njwdss not cooling at all. both fridge and freezer are not cooling, the lights are on and a very low sound exists, but not cooling. As if its not on.

Cut everything off for a few minutes then turn it back on and listen for a click from the compressor relay as the compressor tries to start.
Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay. The relay is a small usually black cube shaped electrical part plugged into the compressor or wired to it nearby. It may appear burnt or rattle when shaken if it's bad. The two connections should show continuity with an amp meter. If it's good then it's most likely the compressor causing the problem.
Check to see if the condenser fan at the back underneath near the compressor is running. If no check fan.

Are the condenser coils near there warm or room temp. should be warm

Hi, freezer took a dump two days ago, fridge was still fine. Then 12 hours later the fridge dumped out too. The compressor is hot and the relay looking thing with part number nsk 85851 clicks on for 20 sec...

most likely the start device is bad, look at the left wall inside the fridge near the cieling, you should see a model number, call your parts store, give them the model number on the machine, there is other letters after the g and tell them you need a start device.unplug the machine, until you get the part so you don't damage the compressor,it's not cooling anyway and thhe freezer feeds cold air to the fridge side,a fan blows cold air from freezer to fridge so next time if the freezer has a problem the fridge side is gonna have a problem too, unclip the metal clip and slide the start device off, read the instructions and it will tell you how to install the new device

Common problem with fridges. Suggest you get behind the fridge and somewhere on top of the compressor, there is a small pipe that normally sits in a pan of a sort. You need to blow hard into the pipe which will release the blockage in the system and that will clear the line. Water will then start draining again onto the compressor. That will stop the water build up in your fridge.

Where can i find the defrost cycle in my freezer? The coils were frozen up so I have defrost everything with a hair dryer. The fan is working but I want to check the defroster.

This timer is generally located in the under the fridge in the front or back. It's generally looks link a small square box about 3 inches square with a single round slotted dial. When you locate the timer using a flat head screwdriver simply turn the dial until you hear the compressor turn off a click. If the fridge is not running you can open the door long enough to warm it up and get the compressor started then turn the switch to make sure you have the defrost timer in the defrost mode. I would also suggest that you check the fridge hourly and make sure that it has started running again after a few hours. If you have a faulty switch this could keep the fridge from starting again. If the switch is faulty and the fridge fails to start by itself then simply rotate the timer until the fridge starts.
Also if your fridge is opened a lot or you live in a high humidity area this too can cause excesive icing.

It's the defrost timer. Nothing else can shut off the cooling fan in the rear, the circulating fan in the freezer and the compressor at the same time. Try looking near your temperature control for a small hole that you can fit your small finger into. Grab a screwdriver and try turning the 2 tooth bezel located there. It won't look like a knob or adjuster, but that IS your defrost timer. Rotating it will restart your fridge, but the timer motor is bad so it will have to be replaced. This is just a quick way to confirm the diagnosis.

compressor won't start. Check the start device on compressor: Unplug the fridge, remove the cover on back, on the compressor (roundish black metal thing) there is a white box or brown relay with wires attached to it. Remove it and shake. If you see sand falling out of it - replace the start device. Model# is necessary for correct part number
