Some computers can be slow or short of hard drive space for quite simple reasons.
Windows and other program hide temporary files in lots of different places
The best option is not always a program or utility and if you want to do as much as you can for FREE like I do then you have a few options.

1. First you need to be in windows explorer.

2. Click TOOLS and FOLDER OPTIONS

3. Now click the VIEW tab

4. Tick the Show Hidden Files And Folders option
Unpick Hide Protected Operating System Files (it may warn you but you can ignore it)

5. Click APPLY then OK

6. NOTE some files may not delete this is OK Also DO NOT DELETE the folder itself where mentioned for cleaning.

7. Using windows explorer go into the WINDOWS folder and look for a directory called TEMP (it is possible there may be more than one)

8. Select all the contents and delete them. Do the same for any other temp folder e.g. temp000

9. Now navigate to Documents and Settings
There are quite a few folders in here that can be cleaned up

10. Look for folders named "Local Settings" In there you will find more TEMP folders that can be cleaned out

11. Now look inside the Temporary Internet Files. Delete anything EXCEPT cookies. Otherwise passwords for some sites you have stored may need you to type the password again.

12. Do this for each user / profile you see.

13. Now check the C: drive itself and see if there are any Temp folders and clean those out too

To prevent accidental deletion of any files windows needs you should go back to step (4) and change the two settings back to their original

Which means that your hard disk is full (or very near to). Decide which files you want to perhaps put on cds of dvds, then erase them from your hard disk to see if the situation improves.

My Microsoft Office Word Enterprise 2007 is all of a sudden slow and "Not Responding" and I cannot open my word documents. I tried diagnostics etc. Help!

Have you tried cycling the power on your computer? Also check how much disc space you have left. Sounds like your hard drive might be getting full. You want at least 20% free hard drive space for best performance.

I keep getting a note teling me that I have Low Disc Space on my Local Disc (D) - 4.87MB free of 119 GB. How do I free up this space. When using it's solution it just empies my Recycle Bin but this doesn't...

I would download and run the registry utility from iobit.com
It is freeware and works then run CHKDSK/F.

Within iobits programme are useful utilities that empty the temporary directories and can remove unwanted old files.
Hope that helps.

Memorex DVD-RW (4X 4.7GB) disks keep closing record sessions and cuts off at about 1:39 minutes.

Hi. Sounds like you are maxing out your recording space on your disc.1:39 sounds like the capacity of a single layer DVD-RW. You can confirm this by putting the disc into a computer and checking the "properties" of the DVD. Go into "My computer" [ldouble click], highlight DVD drive [rightclick] then select "properties"[left click]. the pie chart will show you graphically space remainig on the disc

On the Library section of the DT16300 I have approx 8.5 hours of saved programmes yet the display says there is only 18% of disc space left! out of 60 hours recording time?.

After Re-loading the Freeview Channels on 30th Sept, the disc space was nearly full on The Thomson DT16300. Go to Set up in the Menu, choose 'Personal Favourites' this will bring up all the stored Channels, For some reason a lot of the Channels are marked 'ON' each one takes up disc space. De-select every one, the channels stay in the recorder but release disc space. I now have 86% free. Trevor Rushton

Hard drive for gateway MT 6451 notebook

Open "my computer" and highlight the C drive, which is basically the hard drive, at the lower left it will tell you the initial size of the hard drive and the amount if space you have left. If you don't have much space left, then you may consider a new and bigger hard drive. You can also free up some space by deleting any unused programs and running a disc defrag and disc clean up from the accessories category in the start menu.

Lost a lot of disk space

You may have to defragment the disc, if you have not done this before.
Your computer can build up junk files from browsing the internet and doing graphics, etc on your computer.
There are allot of free down loadable software programs out there.
One trusted site is www.download.com
If you type in a search for freeware or opensource utility programs, you will see many websites that offer free drive cleaner programs.
Then just follow the instructions in the program after downloading.
