If you are getting the same screen in BIOS then the LCD screen has gone bad and needs to be replaced but if not then do a BIOS update and then reinstall the video driver and restart the Laptop.

Vertical lines in hp zd8000

What is happening to your laptop is the power line connecting a row of pixels is failing so only partial colors are showing up causing the vertical line. Usually screen replacement is the only answer to fix it. You can usually find replacement LCD on Ebay.

Vertical multicolored lines appear. Sometimes there are couple of vertical white stips and vertical lines

Connect an external monitor to your laptop. If the problem appears only on the display of the laptop and not on the external monitor in the same time that means the video card is ok and the problem could be : the screen of the laptop or the invertor or the cable that attaches the screen to the mainboard. Have it checked by a professional.

Same problem with my zd8000 HP Pavilion laptop

what has happened with your notebook is a simple wear factor. on the LCD screen there are ribbon cables witch join the main PCB controller head to the LCD laminated portion (what you see) have begun to wear. i have just recently replaced a screen because of the same issue. try gently flexing the the screen and see if the lines dissappear. next open the screen up, and check the cable running to the back of the screen take care as to not damage anything.

HP Pavilion Laptop - vertical lines on screen from top to bottom

this will more than likely be a video card issue. The bad news, on laptops, everything is integrated into the motherboard and and you will have to replace. Getting to the motherboard can be a pain.

19 " HP zd8000

I had the same issue, it started with one at first then progressed to 200+ lines of all the primary LED colours. I tried using the VGA out on an external monitor but noticed light static on dark areas of the screen. Another post mentions a uniform red square pattern. I got this too, and ripped the whole thing apart to find the heat sink cooling fins clogged with dust and the video chips discoloured. Sorry to tell you but by the time this happens it is too late, the on board video card has cooked itself to death. If you haven't experienced it yet, eventually the video card will crash your system and you will have no choice but to disable it and use a USB external video card and monitor.

Dead Vertical Screen X noteboo-LG Brand

If there are any horizontal or vertical lines in the display and you are able to get some picture try checking the lcd inverter located on the bottom of the display screen. In some cases, the screen goes black. Its easily accessible from taking off the bezel around the display. If needed you can recommend a tech to help install. I had a laptop that had the same problem and I touched the inverter and the lines disappeared. Sometimes the display or inverter has a poor connection from the lid opening and closing but that's not always the case.

HP Pavilion ZD8000 vertical lines issue

Hi,
In answer to your question. It may be a screen problem. as the screen has a Matrix of vertical and horizontal line configuration.
I,d suggest trying the laptop/computer on an external monitor or screen. if it works fine on an external. then it could be assumed that the TFT Panel or invertor has a fault.
if the picture/display still has vertical lines on an external monitor, then the fault may lie, with the Mainboard.

Process of elimination, before spending any Money :)
